Interview With A Vampire Double

We were lucky enough to get an exclusive interview with Robert Pattinson’s (Edward Cullen) Double!

Transcript:

Geo: How did you get involved? Was there an audition process?

EC Double: Yes, there was an audition process. Actually, it all started when I was an extra for a movie, Paranoid Park, and they got a whole bunch of pictures of me and I got a phone call, about four months ago, asking me if I still had my long hair, and they wanted me to come in for an interview. I ended up going though a whole bunch of auditions. It ended up being me and four other people and I guess they thought I looked the closest to Rob.

Geo: What’s it like being on the set?

ECD: Its great. It’s so much fun! I didn’t realize how serious this was. Its amazing, you know, with all the actors and everything. It’s crazy because a whole group of fans somehow figured out where the set is, and they always used to post up. It was pretty funny because I would always come out of the trailer, and they would think I was the actually actor. So I’d put a little show for them, it was pretty funny.

Geo: Is anybody nervous because fans have high expectations for the movie?

ECD: I’m not sure about the actors. Actually, I think I’m more nervous then anybody else, but I don’t know. I would say it’s a pretty relaxed atmosphere. I wouldn’t say anything to crazy though.

Geo: Have you read the book?

ECD: I’ve read a little bit of it. I’ve been working a lot, so when I get time I’ll start reading it. It’s crazy being Edward; It’s really fun.

Geo: You’ve said you’ve worked with him. How is he? Like what kind of a person.

ECD: He’s a really nice guy and funny too. We always joke around with him.

Geo: Have you met any of the main cast members?

ECD: Yeah, I’ve met most of them actually. I met Jackson and he is a really nice guy, he an I, we became really good friends. But mostly I’ve been around all the stunt doubles and stuff since I’m mostly working with second unit, which is just the photo doubles and stunt doubles. Not too much of the actors. The stunt doubles are really cool too.

Geo: Any cool stunts you can tell us about?

ECD: I’ve done driving scenes. I haven’t done any wire stuff like jumping or anything. I’ve driven all the cars and I was at the Shire the other day, it’s this place over by the falls where that we were shooting, and the director got me in the Volvo. He had me drive, at like 60 [mph], up this winding gravel road, just hauling, it was pretty fun. I didn’t realize how fast he wanted me to go. I had the radio in the car and the director would be sitting there and start yelling, “Faster, faster!” Pretty fun.

Geo: Have you been in the Cullen house?

ECD: No, I haven’t been in the Cullen house. I’ve been like five or six locations now and this [movie] has so many locations that there’s always two units shooting at all the time. It’s crazy. I’ve been to like to the set, like at - and the Shire and there’s all kinds of places. I don’t know if I should be saying the locations or anything. Also, I forgot, one of the other cars they got me driving is this Jeep, and the scene was when Edward and Bella come up to the baseball field and you can hear my starting to play baseball and it was really raining that day. They got me like four behind lights and had me going super fast in this field like – a up towards the end of the scene. It was really fun.

Geo: Any interesting stories that happened with second unit that you’d like to share?

ECD: Yeah, actually, during one of the scenes, one of the stunt scenes at the - set. One of the stunt doubles got a concussion because the scene was unbelievable! Let me try to describe it. The scene was Edward and James, the villain, and when Edward hits him they slide into this, plywood, kinda like hardwood floor, but its really false wood thats light. They make it look like really camouflaged, so it’s really hard to tell that the floor is all messed up. You know what I’m saying? Well the scene was Edward just hits him super hard and they go sliding on the floor and how the did it Edward, who was Paul the stunt double, hot him so hard. James, I forgot who was playing the stunt for James nailed this wall. Got a concussion and had to go straight to the hospital. It was pretty scary, but I think they’re going to use that footage too.

Geo: Anything else?

ECD: Umm, I don’t know. There’s just so much stuff going on all the time. First day that I showed up there, I had no idea what I was doing. This is really my first time doing this kind of stuff. So I get on set and I’m wondering what to do. I was directed to go back to wardrobe trailers to put on my Edward costume, and I went there and I had no idea what a wardrobe trailer was so I was like walking. There were so many trailers that are like dress/changing rooms and I walked into a change room that said Edward Double. So I was like, “Oh that’s me, ok.” I walked in there and there was the whole outfit and everything, so I started putting it on and like right in the middle of changing the actual stunt double for Edward, like it was his room. I had no idea. He walked in with all these people and I’m like almost nude putting on his costume. On my first day of work. Yeah, it was pretty funny that day.

Geo: Well, I think that’s it unless you want to add anything else.

ECD: Well… It’s really cool to be – since I’ve never done this before it’s all still new to me and I think my favorite part about everything is just how much, like catering, the people do you. Like honestly, I’ll get there early and I’ll put on the wardrobe and then I’ll sit in the hair and makeup trailer for like, sometimes two hours. It’s crazy how serious people get about how realistic they want you to be for the look. That’s cool for me. All day I’ll just be like sitting down or doing nothing in the wardrobe and people will be coming up and making sure everything is still right.

Geo: So you have to use makeup?

ECD: Oh yea, so much. On my hands because Edwards skin is, you know the vampires have the pale skin.

Geo: Do you have to wear the contacts?

ECD: I don’t, but actually there might be a scene coming up tomorrow or in a week or something where I’ll have to wear the contacts. Yeah, because you’re really not supposed to see the close up to me .

Geo: Well thank you for taking the time to do an interview with us.

ECD: No problem.
