MainStreet.com has an article by Amanda Beals about Harry Potter vs. Twilight.
Dawn has set. That is Breaking Dawn, the final installment in the young adult vampire saga, Twilight. With a mysterious cover that fans are eager to decode, Breaking Dawn by Stephenie Meyers, sold an estimated 1.3 million copies last Saturday with her publisher adding an additional 500,000. Is Meyers the new JK Rowling? Meyers replies to the National Post “…There’s no way I’m ever going to be that big, nor [will] anyone else. I don’t think there’s ever going to be anything else to touch that in the future.

They wrote ‘Meyers’. But her name is Meyer. No S at the end. And Stephenie said that no one could ever be that big again, but I think that she IS bigger than J.K. Rowling. Aha!!!!!

I’m actually glad she didn’t compare herself with JK simply because i’m tired of comparisons between Potter & Twilight.
They are two completely different series that cannot be compared. Both have their set of fans and both are succesful but that’s it.

Too late the twilight saga is just as big as HP. And Izzy you r right no one can compare them… Except maybe SM and JKR
I personally thougt the HP series was completely boring and pointless to read. Book after book equaled Harry going to school, hearing a old school myth, investgating, and then almost getting killed, then does and saves the day. For 7 BOOKS. At least Stephanie varied it, especially with New Moon. I think SM overpowers JKR.
You know, I’d love to prove Stephanie wrong. She’s going to be huge, bigger than she is already! Just wait til Twilight the movie comes out, then there will be so much more popularity for the Twilight Series. I know I was the only person in my class who had read Harry Potter before the first movie came out. Stephanie Meyer has a warmth in all the interviews that I’ve seen that I haven’t ever noticed in JK Rowling, though I still adore HP! Twilight is my favourite. In Harry Potter it’s all about the wizarding world but Twilight is rooted in reality. Go Twilight! This is only the beginning!
I really don’t think anything will be able to be as big as Harry Potter. Harry Potter was legendary. Twilight… is just another fad. Don’t get me wrong, I love Twilight, but Harry Potter was just something else.
i think that no one can compare with JK Rowling because no one will ever match her or surpass her in that style of writing. i am a huge harry potter fan but an even bigger twilight fan. but stephenie is in some ways bigger than jk but they are in different categorys, and have effected diffrent groups and in different ways. so to some people JK is bigger than stephenie but to others its the other way around.
i really don’t think twilight will be as big as harry potter. it DEFINITELY isn’t already. i think popularity will rise when the movie is released, but i don’t think it will ever get that big. it might come close, but will never be that big.
anyway, why does it always have to be a competition between twilight and harry potter? i was a harry potter fan first (one of the reasons i read twilight. i started reading all of the fantasy books i could get my hands on after reading hp.) and i love twilight too. i really hate that everyone is pitting them against each other. apart from the magical powers and creatures, they really are two very different stories. they’re both also fantastic stories. one shouldn’t have to beat out the other.

but twilight aint got nothing on HARRY POTTER

and deathly hallows was way better than BD in my opinion

No one ever said we must choose between the Twilight series and the Harry Potter series.
They are both great (though, again, I agree with ‘Cullen#8′ about Breaking Dawn), but they are different…which is great in itself. I mean, come on, they aren’t remotely similar.
Don’t get me wrong, I completely understand the reasoning behind the comparison: amazingly crazed fanbases, etc. I just don’t want to see a Twilight-Potter war, nor do I want to see a Meyer-Rowling war.
There’s a place for both.
i agree with spunkransomcanhaveme, i don’t think there should be a war. but it’s a great comparison… i dont think they should be compaird like that, on the fact of their content, they are completely different and i think ppl should leave harry potter the best in the magical/fiction section and twilight the best in the teen romancy/vampire stuff.. end of story XD
I think Stephanie Meyer is the best there ever will be. I don’t care for Harry Potter as much as I do Edward Cullen. She is going and is the biggest and better writer anyone is going to see.

THANK GOD FOR STEPHENIE MEYER!!!! If it werent for her there wouldnt be an Edward Cullen or Bella Swan!!! Twilght is better then Potter, but Im tired of seeing debates like this! Its just stupid!!!!
No way! Harry potter and jk rowling will ALWAYS triumph over twilight!! Twilight is just another fad! Harry potter is literary classic.

NO way…… JK Rowling is a way better writer then stephenie. Breaking Dawn sucked, and Harry potter will always be a literary classic. Twilight is just a fad.
1 hp has a massive global fan base. Yes far more than twilight. In fact the trueth is just becouse something is big in the us does mean it big every where. Trust i live in a 3th world country and with every new book the whole mall would close down just for books.2 twilight is limited to a certian age rang and gender. Dont believe me try this if you were to poll every beside 14-24 females how many of the resondance will say they love twilight. I know some will say yes but it amount to over 40% of does polled. I dont think so. Hp has a much more wider appiel.(sorry for the spelling english is not my home language)
