What makes me sad is that it sounds like she knows who did this. I really wanted a published copy of Midnight Sun to put next to my copy of Twilight on my bookshelf. It sounds like that won’t happen. I am glad that she wanted us to stay honest and so gave us her partial draft. I look forward to any future book written by Stephenie Meyer.

this sooo totally sucks! I was really hoping for Midnight Sun to come out in bookstores..I didn’t even bother to look at the leaked chapters when I heard someone posted it up, I like to wait for the books to come out to know what happens, I can’t believe this. I feel very bad for Stephenie, I know she must feel very hurt right now, but I will still continue to support her and I hope things turn out well for her soon.

I’m just so sick about this whole thing. The actions of one person just ruined it for millions. It hurts that Stephenie got burned by someone she trusted enough to read it, who wants to share their stories if that’s the way your going to be treated.
I’m really upset that we might not ever see Midnight Sun fully done and released but if I was her I would have to stop to.
I’m also with the boycott of not reading what’s already been done, even though she posted it. I’m just going to have to pray that one day I can hold my own FINISHED copy of Midnight Sun in my hands.

Uhm…Okay, in the anticipation of some bashing, I read the chapters. However…I didn’t know it was Stephenie’s friend who leaked it. Now I feel just horrible. I kept it to myself, however. But I really want her to finish Midnight Sun…To those who haven’t read it, it’s pretty darn good, even with flaws. Now we won’t even get to see the final product.
I think I just died a little bit inside.

In my utter shock and bewilderment and through tears I thought the same thing…that she wasn’t going to continue writing Midnight Sun…but indefinitely means undecided , unsure and unclear so I will hope will all the LOVE in my heart for Edward & Bella that Stephenie will continue writing Midnight Sun and one day publish it for all the fans who love E&B so very much…and doesn’t let the one person ruin Midnight Sun for millions of loyal fans!!! My heart cries out in agony as my tears fall, I can’t even put into words the trauma I am experiencing but it feels akin to Bella’s when Edward left. There must be something that can be done to show how much we love her story and want it to continue. Something to show her that no matter what, we care!

Whoever did this deserves to be hit by a train.

I really hope Stephanie can finish the book, but I understand why she can’t at this time. In respect of what has happened to her I’m not reading the chapters until she is ready with a finished book.

Honestly, after reading this post, every other word that came out of my mouth was a swear word. I have never sweared that much in my life.
And while I was reading this post, my heart got soo torn. The character that I loved the most (other than Bella and Renesmee), won’t be read about. I too have been trying to think of something that would help show SM how much we love her and her series and how much we want Edward to be heard. Is there something that represents Edward, something small, that we could send to show our appreciation? Or perhaps a special message that would show our support and our desire for Midnight Sun? If we organized enough we might make a difference.

Yes, this is inviting flames. You’ve a right to express your opinion just the same as I have a right to express my opinion.

Ms. Meyer has a team of lawyers that could have suppressed any “leak” before most of us were aware of it. She could have had those lawyers place recipients of her unfinished manuscript under contract that they would NOT leak it or face certain legal doom.

I appreciate the stand you all are making on her behalf, but that does not make the first 12 chapters any less present on the internet. As a fan, I was able to look past the typographical errors to the intent behind them and able to appreciate the story presented.

Yes, I will be sad if Midnight Sun is never published. Edward’s story is VASTLY more interesting than Bella’s story. However, I think that the first 12 chapters being “leaked” is a publicity stunt. Something to keep us addicted and salivating and anxious until the movie is released. I will, frankly, not be surprised if Midnight Sun is concurrently released with, or shortly after, the movie.

Ms. Meyer has written a story..she’s written a universe..that even Tolkien would be proud of..but without his belaboring. There’s nothing I could come up with in my own head that would be better than Ms. Meyer’s canon.

I’m sorry she’s been disenheartened by this breach, but I think it could have been circumvented if she had truly wished it.

This is horrible. I agree that we need to find a way to send the message to her that she is so loved. I think that because some people were negative about Breaking Dawn she was already feeling bad and now this. She needs to know now more than ever that her TRUE fans still love her!

I had held off reading the leak, first because I had no way of knowing if it was real, and second because I too wanted to read the finished product… with Stephenie putting it on hold indefinitely, and making it available through her site, I think I’ll probably end up reading it.

Wow. I feel absolutely horrible for Stephenie Meyer. It’s completely understandable why she wouldn’t want to finish the book now–after all, that was nearly half the book! (if it’s following the same amount of chapters as Twilight, that is) The fact that there is this whole leak going around will probably make those who have read it finish the whole story, and those who haven’t read it want to read it more! I don’t think Meyer should let this get to her, even though this is a big blow to the book. Regardless of leaks, or mistakes or anything like that…I’m sure we can all agree that we’ll love the series no matter what

I am shocked someone would hurt Stephenie in such a way. The person who leaked it has to be close enough to deserve a copy. That is heartbreaking. I hadn’t read the 12 chapters, just because I was afraid it was a fake. Now to find this out, I’m torn with what to do. I’ve truly been looking forward to Midnight Sun, and I would love to read it, but I’m very saddened to hear that Stephenie will not be finishing it now. I feel so badly for her and so angry with the person who would violate her like this. I’m sure I cannot even imagine the emotions she is currently going through, especailly for someone she trusted implicitly would go behind her back like this. I love Stephenie Meyer and all of her books. I can only hope this truly gifted author will not be so discouraged that she discontinues writing all together.

I mean what a jerk to do this ! First, now that the fans read the 12 chapter, we’re even MORE ansious to read MS.
I totally understand what SM feels, it’s understanding that now she’s not in the mood to write.
Yes, I read the 12 chapters, I was weak & I couln’t resist … but that doesn’t mean I’m happy with that person did to stephenie, even more if it was someone she trust.

She’s not doing this to “punish” fans! She is simply too upset to keep writing right now. That does not mean she will never finish it or never publish it. She just needs some time to think about it. As much as we all want to read Midnight Sun, we need to not be selfish, and think about Stephenie right now and how this must be affecting her. I’m sure she WANTS to finish wiritng Midnight Sun, but on her time-table when she is ready. She loves the Twilight saga even more than the biggest Twilighter!

I’m really pissed that we, the twilight fans, are being punished because a trusted friend of Stephenie leaked this online! If its out there, us as consumers are gonna be interested and assume since she wrote it she knows its out and/or put it out, so we will read it.

I really sympathize with her because this saga is her baby, and she feels betrayed and may need some time to get back into the right mind set, but for her to say indeffinately, kills her fans. The story of these characters, each and everyone, is “our brand of heroine” and coming down off the high of breaking dawn, we can’t go too long without more. We need her to give us something, and the thirst will never be quinched by a sloppy rough draft, that she herself isn’t even happy with.

I can’t imagine working on something that you feel is as close to you as your own children just to have it stripped away like this. Stephenie, your books have given me an inner peace. Be happy and rest, be with your family and maybe later….. you can give us a little more of Edward, because many of us do not have an Edward in our lives.

You know i’ve been thinking, and anyone who reads this tell me if you agree, it goes along with what marie said, about finnishing it for herself. (not that ALL of us aren’t dying to read this book, that from the second we heard of it we were hooked, and especially since finnishing breaking dawn we havent been obsessed with the idea it was coming.)

But no. It’s terrible to be betrayed by a friend, TERRIBLE. I’ve had it happen to me, and NOT on an international scale, involveing SO MANY PEOPLE. and mine hurt. However, what i’m getting at, is that through life people will put you down, and hurt you.. but you can never let it stop you from doing what you love. As marie put it, something as close to her as her children.. well, we all know she still loves twilight, and that midnight sun was loved, and if she loved it… i hope she can find the strength to continue what she loved. You can’t let people cut you down. But i do understand the hurt, and i hope with time it eases.. and i do hope, as sttated before, that she’s able to finnish the book.

For those of you hoping to find an email address or a way to contact Stephenie — I apologize. There is currently no way for fans to get in contact with her. Stephenie is still much too busy to re-open her fan email or snail mail addresses. Also, I cannot forward emails. She is in the process of writing/editing multiple books, and I think we can all agree that we would rather that she spends her time writing instead of reading thousands of emails every day.

I am heart broken. Reading that chapter about Edward gave me a new excitement towards these books. I have read the other 4 about 3 times each and always wondered about Edward and how he went from one extreme to the other when it came to Bella. I hope and pray that Stephenie finishes the book b/c I would hate to have it unfinished. I do understand her pain and anger. Any type of mood can change a book. I used to write a little for fun and now that my life is changed I can no longer write the same way again. I agree with everyone here, I WISH we could write her and let her know we don’t want to read some stupid manuscript that is incomplete! We want to read the whole thing, from her hand only!
I mean great, way to make it available to the public. And for those of us who still don’t want to read it because its incomplete….we get nothing but “thanks for all your support?” I am just so upset because she has crumpled my respect for her. Tons of authors have their stuff leaked, and they don’t pull out of their project entirely, punishing those who did nothing. So that’s just great, we are at a dead end! I received the email with it attached… weird thing is I didnt have the urge to actually download and read it. It has been sitting in my email since I got it. I am sad, angry, frustrated and often on the brink of tears that Midnight Sun might never get written but I do understand the anger and frustration that Stephanie too must feel and we must consider that. I think the best thing we can do is show her our support for all her stories including Midnight Sun. We need to let her see that no matter what we will always be fans and we can be patient if need be.

This is truely terrible news. My heart just completely sank when I read this. I feel so awful for Stephenie, that someone she trusted so well could do this to her. I can only imagine how she must feel. I am going to pray so hard that she decides to continue writing Midnight Sun and that she decides to publish it. I am completely heart broken.

I read the 1st chapter, and I loved it! I thought it was going to be almost as good, if not, just as good, as Twilight. For her to deprive all of her fans of this great work of writing is a shame.

I will not read those 12 chapters knowing that there is a possibility of not ever being able to read the rest. It will make me too sad.

To write and let her know that this is unacceptable, and we will not read those chapters until they are completed with the rest of the book. To let her know that we are heartbroken and hurt by this just as much as she is, but that we don’t give up as easily as she has. I wanted to wait for the original version, the published version. I’ve not even read the first chapter that she posted on her own website because I wanted the entire experience once it was ready to be heard(read)… I am really and truly heart broken over this and I hope that there is some way for Stephanie to let the true goodness in herself and all of us fans win out over the dishonesty in this world… If the dishonesty is able to bring about this kind of heart ache isn’t that like letting James win?

I just feel horrible! I know that everyone wanted to read Midnight Sun, including me, and couldn’t wait to actually hear it from Edward’s point of view. But why can’t people have the respect and the decency to wait and be patient and not ruin it for other huge fans. I hope that Stephenie will be able to return to writing/finishing it. This has to be one of the saddest days in the Twilight fandom. I am completely emotionless, and very sad that on of my favorite series is not going to be completed. My heart definatlly goes out to stephenie, especially since those who did read the leaked copy is criticizing her rough draft. Midnight sun wasn’t supposed to be experienced this way, and it is truly a shame that this happened. I hope that someday Stephenie will find it in her heart to continue, even though this happened. All I can say is I wish this never happened.

We do not blame SM Jennifer I, we are all just very upset about the whole thing as we know SM is too. Some are lashing out at her but its not intentional. They are just responding in any way they know, that is how devastating this is to everyone. We love Stephanie and wish to support her in her sadness, but sometimes its hard to overcome our own to reach out to others. Most here feel as Bella did When Edward left…its hard to overcome that.

what a sad day…maybe in a few months she might sit down and write a chapter of midnight sun and decide to continue with it…she didn’t say she would never write it just that it is on hold…if we can show her that we support her and that we really want the book she may write it…right now she probably feels like the book has been tainted…it will take a while for her to get over that feeling. Once the movie comes out things might change…all we can do is try to keep the hope alive

She should not be worried about her work on those chapters, just the first one was amazing. I think if she continued them and I hope she does, that the book would be just as amazing as if those chapters had never been leaked. No, no, no!!!!! This cannot be happening. I understand where Stephenie is coming from, but why should we all be punished for someone else’s mistake. I never read any of the illegal stuff. The only places I visit are Steph’s site, twilighters, and MTV (and occasionally youtube, but only through threads). I’ve been looking forward to Midnight Sun since I read the first chapter. In fact, it’s number one on my “To Buy” list, it was even above Breaking Dawn. It totally breaks my heart to never see it finished…I’m praying she’ll overlook the minority who were disloyal, and continue for the majority of fans who are honest and loyal to her work.

i think the problem too is that she used the word ‘indefinitely’ and we don’t know how to take that. Does it mean never or does it mean eventually she will get back to it? It is one of those words that can be taken in different ways. It is like when someone say’s “we will see”. To some people that means no to others it means yes. The only people who know how Steph was using the word indefinitely are those who know her well. More will probably be know over the next few days especially closer to the release of the movie. I imagine that once the media get a hold of this she will be bombarded with questions about MS. So I guess we just have to wait and see what happens over the next few weeks.

Well on hold indefinitely should mean (if she means it this way) that she will not write for a while, and she will decide when to write again. I hope she does because it’s VERY good and I am dying for the meadow scene. Or maybe, this could also be a joke to make us more anxious for this book after what people said about Breaking Dawn. I was really looking forward to reading Midnight Sun and I am so sad! I am balling right now. i can barely type this. who ever did that should be put in jail!!! if she doesn’t finnish the book i will die. i am one of the biggest fans you will meet. i read the books several times and i am in love with vampires. i am now writing a vampire book of my own. If you read this Stephenie Meyer i beg of you not to stop. you are my hero and the one writer i truly look up to. your work taught me what kind of a writer and think i am. i know this must be hard for you, butyou can’t just give up. what will that tell your readers and crazy fans. keep at it. and we are all here for you.

um, maybe you should look back at breaking dawn…that was flawed, filled with plot holes, and out of character, but you still threatened your publishers and made them print it anyway.
case in point: what’s with the pouting? you have a similar attitude whenever you address the fans who didn’t enjoy BD, as if they’re all 11 yr olds who have never read a book bigger than yours. yes, we have read more complicated, well-written books that you could try studying before you publish another fanfiction-esque novel. we’re not victims of the Rob-effect, we’re victims of the reverse Rob-effect. loved the series before, but hating it now because it (and your originally mediocre writing) has gone on a downward spiral.
but i see that you simply want more attention from rabid fangirls, and as soon as you get enough suicide threats and rivers of tears, you’ll announce the return of midnight sun and become their heroine again.

OME this is HORRIBLE ! ! ! I can’t believe someone would do that. Writing is an emotional thing. It’s hard to take something you’ve written and put it out for the public not knowing if they’ll like it or not, and for someone to just push her work out into the public eye without her knowledge is wrong. I don’t care who the writer is or how good they are, it’s still immoral and rude.

I’d be lying if I said my heart didn’t break into a million pieces when I read this before work. But we the fans need to let Stephanie know that we aren’t going to let those who leaked it win by not reading it even though she posted the draft herself.

I sent that message to Stephanie myself and to my facebook Twilight group. I just don’t want her to give up on us the fans and Edward and Twilight. And promising I won’t read it to her is the only thing I can think of that can be done to give her hope that not all of us are like that.

If it takes her 3 years to 20 years to get over this, I can wait. But I’m not reading that draft till I have Midnight Sun in my hands from a local book dealer and I’ve read it cover to cover. Not a minute sooner.

Wow. Just…wow. I can’t even imagine what it must be like for Stephanie to have to deal with the leaking of her book. How heartbreaking for her. After reading the totally compelling first chapter, I have been so anxious to read Midnight Sun. She’s well within her rights to do put this on hold. I can only hope that she gets the inspiration back to finish. But if not, I would understand completely. I’ll wait patiently for Midnight Sun so I can read all of it and put it next to my other books.

We fans should do something for steph. so that she knows we are here for her and we love her very much.

honestly, i did read the leaked draft when it came out, and it was AMAZING. i’m so sad that she might not finish it, i’ve been a fan since 2005 (when it first came out) and i’ve loved every bit of it ever since. i will be seriously bummed if it doesn’t get written, it would have been a beautiful addition to the series

I’m reading the draft now, and its fantastic… did we really expect anything less!? of course not! Stephanie is amazing. I’m sorry that she feels so betrayed by the leak of the draft, but I think shes doing more harm than good by refusing to finish. Cutting her nose off to spite her face…
I really hope that eventually she comes to terms with this incident and falls back in love with the project the way she has made us all fall in love with the Cullens… hopefully then things will fall back into place…

This is the most depressing thing I have ever read. I refuse to read this draft and hope and pray for the REAL, finalized version of Midnight Sun, as she intended us to read it. As for traitor being male, who knows. I think people are just hoping it wasn’t Rob that allowed it to be leaked. We know he had a copy as he is playing Edward. I think more like it was a rabid female fan who somehow got hold of an original copy, copied it quickly and with no thought to the consequences posted the manuscript hoping to bask in glory for bringing something so coveted to the world. They didn’t stop to think, they didn’t stop to care.

I am just as mad as any of you. I have some things to say about it though. The first being that everyone is blaming the person who leaked it, but what seem to be forgetting is that Stephenie gave it out and from what i read she said that she gave out more than one copy. It’s her fault just as much as it is that person who posted it. If she didn’t want it read than she shouldn’t have given it out. Although I do understand the hurt and betrayal that she feels because she trusted this person.

Secondly, why is she saying she is going to put it off indefinately? i know that that word doesn’t mean no but the message that she left on her board basically made it pretty clear that she had not intention of ever finishing it. Now, I think that this a big letdown to her fans not only because she is punishing all of her loyal fans who didn’t do anything wrong for the mistake and betrayal of one person, but because she made a promise to her fans that it would be finished and she is breaking it. It is her obligation by making that promise to finish the book for us. I think that it hurts her credibility as an author who claims to care about her fans. in this way she is letting us all down for a mistake that was in part hers.

Lastly, when I read her message she said that she was not in the right state of mind. “If I tried to write Midnight Sun now, in my current frame of mind, James would probably win and all the Cullens would die, which wouldn’t dovetail too well with the original story.” Now to start out with we all already know how the story goes by this point so no matter how upset she she can’t change that. She would really lose credibility if she completely changed the story. Then there’s the fact that she already knows what Edward was doing and thinking during the whole book. She couldn’t have written Twilight if that wasn’t the case. Most the book was written from the first one anyway. All she has to is write minute thoughts and reactions in some places where the words and story line was already laid out in Twilight. She says that she couldn’t write it in this state of mind, which is fine , but she could just let it pass and then finish it, because it will pass. But either way, I don’t understand her theory of how she couldn’t write him now. She is writing his thoughts and feelings not her own. I think she putting to much stock into the way she is feeling. It’s like she is writing her first story and it is all about her. His thoughts and feelings go along with what he, Edward, is going through in the book. It has nothing to do with what she the writer is going through now especially with the fact that the book is truly already written.

Ok, so maybe that wasn’t the last thought, but this one will be. I honestly just think that she is over-reacting. And another thought occured to me since I read that message. What if Stephenie Meyer never really wanted to finish writing Midnight Sun? It kinda fits right. I have read articles and things where she has been asked about it and everytime she gives you the sense that didn’t really want to do it. She has made comments like “I don’t if I will actually publish it. I might just put it on my website when I finish it” (EW) or “I don’t actually know if I am quite ready to jump right back into the Cullen universe just yet” (B&N Interview). And if she wanted to keep it so under wraps, why did she give out a bunch of copies to her friends, no matter how trustworthy she thought them? And one more thing if she didn’t want us to read the unfinished draft why would she put it up on her website? All she has do is say that the ones released are drafts and say you can read them if you want but I prefer you didn’t. Not everyone read them. I didn’t even know about them. She could have just treated it the way she treated Breaking Dawn. It just seems to me like she was looking for any reason at all not to finish it and this finally gave her the out she was looking for.

I am just so mad! She is being ridiculous and in some she should be happy that she had to write that message. It proves that she has millions of fans who love her characters just as much as she does and want more. I just wish that she would see that and live up to her promises.

Am I the only one who thinks that she is being utterly ridiculous and childish. Some people that she made the mistake of giving the partial drafts to posted them on the internet, and that’s our fault? We shouldn’t be able to read it because they did something that she didn’t like? I didn’t even know it was out on the net, and neither did a lot of other people. Why are we blaming the people who posted it? That shouldn’t even matter. We should be blaming her, because she is the one holding the story back from her fans for no reason at all. Honestly i just don’t think she wanted to write it all.

Some people are constantly overreacting to everything that happens in relation to Twilight to get attention or flaunt their “fan-ness”, but I know a lot of people are being honest about their emotions toward this. I am not gonna claim that I’m on anti-depressants now or that I cried all day, but I feel this deep ache of disappointment and I really have been unhappy for the past two days, although I don’t think about it all the time. I am very sad, especially because this was something we didn’t have control over but which affects us still. I hope things turn out better than they seem like they will right now…

I have to say, I did read the chapters that steph put on the website, and I loved it, I just hope someday I can read the whole thing. Steph, we love you! but i cant believe this. seriously. while i can honestly say i agree 100% with some of these posts, i can also say i disagree at least a little bit with others and disagree 100% with others as well. i dont think we should blame steph, i think that we should blame the rat who posted the story all over the internet. i mean, steph trusted him/her, and he/she betrayed that trust. i’ve been betrayed by “friends” before–although not nearly as bad as this–so i can kind of understand, and i’m sure others can too. it makes me sad that this person would do something so low without a thought for how much this would hurt so many people–not only steph, but all her fans waiting rabidly for this book to come out. its not fair to anyone. just so that this person could have 20 minutes of glory for giving fans what they wanted doesnt mean that it will all be well and good forever. basically, i think that steph should take off time as she needs, write some other stuff, and then when she feels comfortable (and the betrayer sends her a nice gift basket as 0.0000000001% of an apology to make it up to her) with the series again, then she can write midnight sun again.

so there are my thoughts, written down after i have calmed down and can think rationally again.

See here’s the thing. I feel bad that someone betrayed her, but what just gets under my skin is that just because one person put it out she is taking away the pleasure of reading it from the rest of her fans.
