9/11
Submit News | Posted by Gretchen | Categories: Other

I just want to take a moment to recognize today’s date.

Seven years ago, the Twin Towers in New York City were destroyed by terrorists. Thousands of lives were lost, and only a few were saved from the rubble.

We remember this day each year to honor the people who died in this horrific event: men, women, workers, firefighters and police alike.

9/11 is a tragedy that will forever be remembered by people all over the globe, and it’s victims, forever in their hearts.

Im kinda nervous about this post, I hope I said the right things!

by EternalTwilight on September 11

Well said Gretchen. But as a Canadian I remember too. I remember that morning like it was yesterday. I live right next to Vancouver International Airport and I remember seeing the tarmac covered in grounded planes, watching them circling the sky waiting for permission to land…

by Gretchen on September 11

Thank you! I live in New York [state, not the city]. I wasnt thinking about other countries, but of course you all must remember it too.

by Jen on September 11

Its hard to believe that this happen 7 years ago! I was 12 a the time, but I remember it all happening!

by Gretchen on September 11

I was only 9. I really only remember that we werent told about it at school because we were too young and when i got home my mom told me, but i didnt understand.

by Ashley on September 11

i was 11. my dad was also working at the Pentagon when it happened. thank goodness he was on the other side. he found out through the news and then 5 minutes later they evacuated.

by Haley on September 11

well said gretchen!!! i am lucky to have not known anyone that was hurt in this horrific event. i was 7 when it happened and it still makes me upset to think about all of the innocent people that were killed.

by laura on September 11

thanks for posting a news thread about 9/11 i think its important that we all remember this day and the lives that were lost

by Gretchen on September 11

I agree, Laura. We talked about it a little in school today, but the superintendent only gave us like 5 seconds of silence.

by kiersten on September 11

im glad u did this helping ppl remember today i cant believe it was 7 years ago it feels like less

by Cath on September 11

God that day was horrible I’ve always lived in NYC, that day i was in school and i had the classroom with the gorgeous Manhattan skyline…. it wasn’t gorgeous that day. All the parents were going hysterical picking us up from school and scaring us even more. It was so chaotic, and seeing how all the police, firefighters and volunteers from everywhere coming to help you can see how much patriotism this horrible incident bought on it really united the nation, as well as us rude newyorkers.

by The♥Other♥Cullen on September 11

Awesome job, Gretchen! But through the tragedy, we were brought together. Let’s hold our flags high today.

I’m an older Twilighter and was in my early twenties then, working at a bookstore in central New York State. I remember watching the towers fall on the tv in the breakroom. I worked with some of my best friends and we hugged each other and cried because we felt so helpless. We closed the store early and went home where we sat glued to the TV. I remember going to a candlelight vigil afterward. No matter what your age, that’s a day that we all can never ever forget.

by kayla on September 11

I was only 8 when this happened but I still remember that day very clearly because i remember my teacher telling us her husband was killed and I especially remember her tying very hard not to cry. I’m can’t believe it was 7 years ago!

by Nicole on September 11

Thanks for posting this.. so many people have forgotten why this date is so important and we must recognize it as a day that will live on in the hearts of everyone. I was 16 when this horrific event happened and I was lucky enough that my high school teachers set aside any teaching so we could focus on the tragedy our country was witnessing. I realize this sight is all about Twilight and stating how much we adore these beautiful actors and actresses but it is admirable for you to recognize this day and allow others to remember as well. God Bless America!

by Ashley! on September 11

btw, thx for this awesome post. it means alot to all of us.

by Stephie on September 11

I was 14 at the time. I saw everything on the news before my bus arrived, and continued watching updates all throughout my school day.

Unfortunately, September 11 is also my parent’s anniversary. Doesn’t really put you in a mood to celebrate.

by Le Le on September 11

I ALMOST forgot! i feel so bad :(

by Kate on September 11

Thank you for taking a moment to remember 9/11. This is a date we can never forget. So many lives were lost. My nephew joined the marines shortly after that to help all Americans keep their freedoms.

by Mrs. Spunk Ransom on September 11

by jasper luvr on September 11

by elizabeth on September 11

well said gretchen im glad you mentioned the importance this day had on the world.

by Gretchen on September 11

Mrs. Spunk Ransom- That’s not what I meant at all. I edited it.

by Jesse on September 11

I was only 7 when this happened, and I remember sitting in front of the TV with my family, it seemed like the scariest thing in the world to me at the time.
Its hard to believe it was 7 years ago

by Kara on September 11

Sadly in some european media people are talking about the possibility of a conspiracy (an inside job) and now I have a lot of doubts :( we will never know exactly the truth about that day but it will stay forever in my mind and painful to watch

by Gretchen on September 11

Some kids in my class strongly believe that it was a conspiracy.

by Kate on September 11

Mrs Spunk Ransom - yes, Canadians felt the blow too. I did mention all the lives that were lost - that means from all countries. I stated that my nephew joined the marines to help protect our country because it happened on our soil.

When I went downstairs this morning my mother asked me if I knew what day it was, and when I said yes, she then asked me if I remembered where I was when I found what had happened 7 years ago. I answered without hesitation, “3rd period, 9th grade biology.” That was such a horrible event that there is no way I could ever forget, nor should anyone else. I am taking time today to think about those who were lost and pray for the ones that were left behind. Let us always remember this day, and more importantly the people.

by Emily on September 11

I was 13, sitting in Mr. Fleetwood’s 8th grade English class… and i just remember thinking that I’m from Illinois… so why are all of us scared about something happening in new york? back then, I was way too young to understand the devastation it was bringing… I feel so terrible for all of those who lost loved ones in that horrible tragedy… I will always remember that day. so sad. :(. and don’t you think it’s time to get troops out of Iraq? 7 years is long enough. just my opinion though. I guess it’s because one of my friends died in Iraq… I definitely 100% support the troops… just not the war. enough people have died in the face of terror.

by twilighttwiilight on September 11

I was 8. schools hardly leave a memorial time anymore. its sad. we had like a two second moment of silence and got right back into work as if nothing happened

by went to the beach today on September 11

i remember that day so clearly, and i am australian and the shock hit pretty hard here. i was 10 and i woke up and here it was sept 12th and i was like what is the twin towers? and then everyone was talking about. my friends dad woke her up and goes ‘you are waking up to the worst day in history’ and she was like what?
it was a very delicate discussion yesterday, i wish i was old enough to understand then

by Diandra on September 11

Thank you so much for posting this. It means alot to me because my dad is a firefighter, and was almost sent out on the rescue team. Thank God he wasn’t.
Couldn’t have said it better myself :)

by Meg on September 12

Thank you for the post. Though of course it’s important to remember that it wasn’t just the World Trade Center that was hit, but also the Pentagon, and many good people also lost their lives in United Flight 93.

by Heather on September 12

It was routine for me to slam my alarm off early in the morning. Not on September 11th. For some unknown reason, I decided to just lay there in my bed and listen to the radio… “Two planes crashed into the World Trade Center—Thousands dead…” I was so shocked, but not completely aware of how huge a deal this was, even at the age of 12. Last night, my Mom and I watched a 2 hour special on 9/11. I cried, and I felt so helpless and devastated. What happened 7 years ago on September 11th was a true tragedy. And I feel the pain for all those who lost loved ones and friends… I’m Canadian, but I still feel pain for all those who lost loved ones and friends… Rest in Peace: Mothers, Fathers, Sisters, Brothers, Daughters, Sons, and Heroes. You will always be remembered.

by Sabina on September 13

I have a friend who has a friend who’s dad died in 9/11 on his first day of work. How sad. A tragedy, indeed.

by KatyO on September 13

Thank you for this post.

by Lori on September 22
