Justine, a Twilighter, dugg up some interesting info on the meanings behind the names of the Twilight characters, check it out.

»Edward: Means “rich guard”. (so true!)
»Isabella a.k.a. Bella: Meaning “my God is abundance”. Isabella of France married Edward II. (WOAH!)
»Jacob: Meaning “holder of the heel” or “supplanter”. (Take what you can from that…)
»Jasper: Means “treasurer” in Persian.
»Rosalie: Means “Rose” (Obviously… How about, “beautiful rose?”)
»Alice: Composed of the elements adal “noble” and heid “kind, sort, type”. (interesting)
»Emmett: Meaning “whole” or “universal”. (Hmmm…)
»Carlise: Meaning, “Strong as Lugh”, Lugh was a Celtic god of the sun and craftsmanship. Also known as “the shing one.” (So, he’s as strong as “The shining one”? Interesting relation to vampires!)
»Esme: Means “esteemed” or “loved” in Old French. (awww)
»Charlie: Meaning, “Man, army, or warrior.” (hmmm….)
»Leah: Meaning, “Weary” or “Mistress or ruler.” (Fits her well.)

Yes, Stephenie did some research for the names. She said so. At first she called Rosalie “Carol” and Jasper “Ronald” XD I wouldn’t have liked those named.

“Bella” also means “Beauty” in Italian, which is quite well known but I’ve always loved this fact nonetheless. For her, it is definitive completely.

ok i have to say this, jacob, leah(ecclipse), rachel (jacob’s sis) and rebecca (jacobs other sis) has all got something in common outside of twilight.
i think it was a hebrew story and in it jacob is the son of rebecca and he becomes in love with rachel so he makes a deal with her father. he must work for him for 7 years before jacob can marry his daughter. jacob does it but when he asks to marry rachel as promised he has his other daughter hide behind her wedding veil and marries jacob. the father then says if jacob works with him for another 7 years he can marry rachel instead and so he does.

i just found this interesting before and read it. it really is weird how connected the four names are and they ended up being in not only an ancient hebrew story but also in the twilight saga.
