New Moon Director Rumors

Nikki Finke at Deadline Hollywood, and Perez Hilton, are both reporting that director Chris Weitz (The Golden Compass, About A Boy) has been offered the job to direct the New Moon movie.

See the articles here, and here.

As with all rumors, keep in mind that this is not confirmed.

Since The Golden Pass was a book before, was the movie like it?
I heard some people that said it wasn’t…..

Wow. You guys have the calmest reactions so far.

I saw a clip of the polar bears in Golden Compass and they’re okay- not terrible. I LOVED About a Boy.

I just hope he can get the dark-depressing tone of New Moon and the downright terrifying visit to Italy. Everything else I’m confident he can do.

I wonder if it’s because Catherine was asking for a bigger budget for New Moon and Summit thought she should direct with the same budget she had for Twilight.

definately not my first choice. I dot really know what to think about him as a potential new moon director, his stuff hasn’t really impressed me.

As long as he doesn’t write the screenplay, it will be okay. Golden Compass was a terrible adaption of the book. If they keep the same writer, great. He seems like a good director/producer.

    Oh my goodness.
    Perfect! =D

    I adored TCG.
And I definitely believe he will be able to handle the Volturi scenes quite well; as per his work with the polar bears in TCG.

As for Catherine, I am sad to see her go; she reall did seem to “get” Twilight.
But I don’t know how she would’ve dealt with the intensity of New Moon.
Twilight had required that awkward, new high school, first love situations. But New Moon requires that post-awkward seriousness.

..Maybe this will just be a trial and error, hopefully not. But I would love to see Catherine back on Eclipse or Breaking Dawn

P.S. I demand they use hair gel on Taylor. I know, I know. There was nothing about gelled or spiked hair in the book for Jacob. But I will be utterly dissapointed if they didn’t use it.

oh, no. The Golden Compass? That’s the only thing I have against him so far. It may sound ridiculous, but I don’t really want him as a director for new moon. The Golden Compass and the rest of the Dark Material crap that Pullman wrote are absolute garbage. as a Christian, i do not support that, and i didn’t go to see the movie. this Chris Weitz directed that movie, and i’m not happy about it. but, like i said, it may be a little ridiculous. he’s just a director doing his job.

but, he’s not my first pick.

i wish they kept Catherine. Maybe there’ll be some kind of miracle – Summit and Stephenie won’t like other director’s visions and plans for new moon or eclipse, and they’ll have to keep Catherine.

    Keeping my fingers crossed.

I saw and read the Golden Compass and saw the movie it was WAY off the book. Even the chronological order was completely mixed all around. This scares the crap out of me.

I never read the Golden Compass but after I saw the movie I did. I personally loved the movie. I dont see why you all are hating on the director. But as I said I didnt read the Golden Compass so I dont know how true to the book the movie was.

I am not really sure about him directing it. I read The Golden Compass and the rest of the books in the series. The first 2 were great but the 3rd one made me very angry because I am a devoted Christian. I thought that he did and OK job with the movie. It was still pretty cool. I’m still for Alfonso Cuaron to direct it!

Then again, he isn’t writing the screenplay.
I see on other sites a whole bunch of people freaking out. I think if it is true, that we should try to give him a chance. I mean, a lot of people hated that Rob was going to be Edward right? Now everyone loves him.
    We’ll see what happens.

I have read all 3 of The Dark Materials… and I thought the movie was just an ‘okay’ adaptation… I mean, I wasn’t blown away by it, but I wasn’t really wanting it to be spectacular as I’m not a HUGE fan of the books as I am with Twilight and HP.

So, idk, I’m not really excited with this pick or really pumped up about it, but I’ll try to just have an open mind I guess. I’m honestly ready to see some of the scenes shot though, like a trailor or something, to see how different the feel will be from Twilight.

omg its so calm on this comment page. but if you go to hisgoldeneyes.com and look at THAT comment page for this news heres what i gotta say: i dont think i have seen so many caps locks used in my life for a comment page lol. everyone there is going crazy cuz they think that this guy isnt fit for a Twilight movie director.

Personally, i think that there should be a different person, spefically A FEMALE DIRECTOR because a female would be able to relate better to the series. but hey, maybe im wrong, but i just feel that way. but there has been great romance movies like The Notebook and Titanic that were directed by males, and i think that THOSE directors should be the director of New Moon lol. I just think that this Chris guy istn really Twilight material. And i heard from a lotta people that this guy did a bad job at adapting the Golden Compass into a movie. i dunno about the guy…

Okay. I was willing to be open-minded, and I IMDB’d him. Now, I am furious. How in hell can they consider a guy who had ANYTHING AT ALL to do with The Nutty Professor II?!? What crackhead at Summit was sitting in an office thinking, hey, I bet the screenwriter of Nutty Professor II: The Klumps would be a great director for this dark, moody movie with a mob of murderous fangirls…. Awesome. Now we can look forward to fat jokes and toilet humor. Chris Weitz can be the guy who answers the age old question: do vampires fart? GRR! *sigh* However, it’s obvious that he’s been trying to redeem himself; he produced Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist, which was pretty good… But still… Oh, man. Stephenie, you gotta use whatever muscle you’ve got!

Hi FANS! I’ve been going through a lot of forums and it seems that some fans have a united front on picking a good director. So far there are two directors that a lot of fans agree about. A COLLABORATION OF LEN WISEMAN AND JOSS WHEDON!!!!! :)

They both have had experiences with creating love stories with action. They’ve both have made hit movies or TV series. I think both of them doing NEW MOON AND ECLIPSE WOULD BE AWESOME! The way WISEMAN brought out the love story of SELENE and MICHAEL from Underworld eventhough it was an action movie was awesome! He cared for their love story and made sure the audience would understand that. The way WHEDON showed the relationship of Buffy and Angel was great too and became really popular! :)

IMAGINE… these two great minds who have a romantic side and action side could bring out our beloved stories to the big screen! BOTH OF THEM! I hope some of you will agree. Honestly, out of all the directors that were mentioned, they are the only two with enough experience on the whole forbidden love story and the whole action sequence.

If you agree, please spread this to all other forums that you’ve read about so that if SUMMIT or Stephenie checks it they’ll hear our voice out.

Thanks to all the fans who like me just wants to make sure our SAGA will receive its due justice to the big screen! :)

Chris Weitz CANNOT direct new moon. He doesn’t stick to the book and in The Golden Compass he quit half way through!!!!! They need a better director and one that will stay on and keep to the book!!!!!!

Guys, he’ll be working with the screenplay he gets. About A Boy is a very poignant, INDIE film. I LOVE that film. TGC has evidence of the scope of effects NM needs. The thing about this director is that he’s very diverse. He’s capable of directing emotion from his cast and isn’t someone who directs the same kind of movie every time. I’m giving it an open mind. At least I’ve seen some of his work and New Moon is my favorite. I’m actually a little at ease by this news now that SOMEONE is being considered that isn’t totally crap.

NO! NO! NO! THE GOLDEN COMPASS WAS AWFUL! IT WAS A GREAT BOOK AND HE RUINED IT! AND NOW FOR NEW MOON- NOT ONLY WILL IT HAVE A BAD DIRECTOR, IT HAS VIRTUALLY NO BUDGET AND ITS HAPPENING TOO QUICKLY. NEW MOON WILL BE AWFUL!!!

You know… from seeing the movie.. I can kinda see how Weitz’s directing ‘look’ could kinda match Hardwicke’s… But now I want to read the Golden Compass to see how well the movie followed the original story.

ummm guys he doesnt realy have much to do with the adaption of the book u know!! its the screenwriter because she writes the script ( and that rosenburg is still the screenwriter so some s stil good)!! but i agree with you guys that twilight should still be directed by ccatherine! i mean not to be sexist but shes a girl and the twilight series is mostly feminine based and a girl is much more closer to twilight and they can relate to it better!! pls catherine was an actual fan!! i mean this TGC directer, i bet he hasnt even read the books but catherine has and she has passion for these books and she’s making it for us and not the $$$. anyways hopefully it stays as a rumor. if the new directer screws up, hes going to have a angry mob after them!!

ohmygod. this is scaring me so badly. i heard the golden compass was a horrible movie. and it was not like the book at ALL! this new director also wants to replace the character of jacob black (played by the taylor lautner we all know and love!) by the guy who plays prince caspian. i really disslike him and he is not suitable for the role of jacob black. i really hope he changes his mind and keeps taylor! ughhhh……..
