In a new article from EW.com Summit has stated a tentative release date for New Moon, November 20th, 2009. Please remember that tentative means it is possible for it to change.
Summit Entertainment has tentatively slated Nov. 20, 2009, as the release date for New Moon, the Twilight sequel, which means any director who signs on to replace Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke has to be in Vancouver by Dec. 15 to begin 12 weeks of preproduction before a mid-March start date.
They also say that Summit isn’t sure if they will recast “baby-faced Taylor Lautner” as Jacob.
Two sources tell EW the studio doesn’t want to rehire baby-faced Taylor Lautner (pictured) as Jacob, though Lautner’s agent has apparently… [attempted] to demonstrate to Summit how a digitally bulked-up Lautner could work. (Summit says it won’t make a decision until a new filmmaker is on board.)

The fact that the budget is only 50 million is completely lame, so is the fact that they are even considering getting rid of Taylor. According to IMDB Pro the production company for New Moon is Imprint Entertainment and Summit Entertainment is the distributor. I say we spam both. I found contact info for both (but no email for Summit). I don’t care about the director, but our thoughts on the budget and Jacob should be heard.

I know!!! He makes a perfect Jake! He’s been working out for two hours a day, six days a week in order to bulk up for this film. Tom Cruise isn’t tall either, and he gets casted for everything. Making someone appear tall in films isn’t very hard to do. Digitally changing someone’s appearance isn’t hard either, just look at the Benjamin Button previews! They’re just looking to make a quick buck! I don’t care when it comes out, I just want it done right!!!

I don’t necessarily think this means Catharine should be brought back, she still wasn’t a very good director. Just because she is right about the fact that Edward should not appear in the middle of New Moon doesn’t justify her coming back via petition. A new petition should be made to keep Taylor Lautner, I can’t imagine a better Jacob. When I think of Jacob’s smile (which is frequently referred to in the books) it just makes me more certain that Taylor is just right for the part…have you SEEN that boy’s teeth!? PERFECT!! He’s bulking up for the movie already, and there are always stilts for height, it’s not like he needs to be 3 feet taller, just a few inches and more inches added gradually (and he’ll probably be growing during filming anyways).
The only change that is really necessary for a good production is the budget. I wouldn’t mind a new screen writer either.

I think it is a great Idea to hire a new director because let’s face it guys Catherine wasn’t very good. Just because she was a nice person doesn’t mean that she makes good movies. I mean seriously. don’t get me wrong I liked twilight as much as the next person but only because…well it’s twilight and I’m a fan so I force myself but what I’m really hoping is that someone can handle the job more efficiently than Catherine and make the movie less of a joke. especially because New Moon is so dramatic. As for the budget… 50 million? who really cares?!? a good movie is about the quality and content not how much money it cost or how much effects are used. As for Jacob, as adorable as he is, I think they can do better. Don’t get me wrong, I think it would be better for them to keep him because of the fact that they used him already and suddenly changing him would be too risky. I can’t believe that the budget is still so low! Twilight’s success should be proof enough that it would be a wise investment. They’d also be crazy to recast Jacob! It would mess with the flow of things! It’s like they are trying to figure out how to cut corners in all directions!
Honestly, the sequel is already sucking……and i was not one who had all of this crazy expectations for the film in the 1st place. I didn’t go in expecting it to be the book. And I was happily surprised for the most part (i know we all had or particular issues with it)…but the screenplay was the wakest part of the movie ( and to be fair i love all of her other work), changing directors is almost always a horrible idea, and now they are thinking about changing the cast. with all the things they can do with technology, they’re worried about Taylor. I loved Twilight. I don’t care about Hardwicke leaving but they shouldn’t get rid of Taylor. He’s awesome. He and Kristen work well with each other. He is bulking up and I have no doubt that, if Summit stopped being so stingy, Taylor could be the best werewolf (shape-shifter) ever brought to the screen.

Ok so before originally I was kinda bummed that Chatherine wouldn’t direct new moon, because I thought she did a good job with twilight, UNTIL I read the part in that article where she says she wanted to keep Edward MIA during the movie!!!! all of these are RUMORS except for the fact that Catherine is NOT doing New Moon and Eclipse. So I think everyone should just calm down and wait and see for the FACTS to come out before we all start getting worked up over decisions that haven’t even been made yet, okay? I’m a big Twilight fan as much as everyone else who leaves comments on here, but seriously, be a little realistic now. They’re making movies out of our favorite books and we should be thanking them for doing just that alone, not counting everything else they plan to go forward with. So just cool your jets for a while and by December 15, when the new director has to be in Vancouver for pre-production, when the cast is finally posted, and when they start releasing footage and trailors, THEN we can make all of the comments we want and you can decide whether you’re going to see the movie or not, kay? I completely agree that this movie should have a larger budget behind it, but look at what the production team did with the budget they had. They made a pretty amazing movie, wouldn’t you say? It’s not how much money they get, it’s what they do with it. The special FX could use sprucing up, but I don’t want to see them overdo it with excessive CGI.
As for Taylor Lautner, I think people need to calm down and clear their heads a bit. First of all, there’s nothing definite about this, so there’s no need to grab the pitchforks and torches and release the hounds. Taylor seemed like a capable actor, but let’s face it: we really didn’t see that much of him in Twilight, and what we did see, in my opinion, didn’t give that much of an idea of how good or bad he’d be as Jacob in New Moon.
If you want to write and protest the budget or the possibility of not retaining Taylor, go ahead. Just be civil and respectful. Don’t threaten; it’s the fastest way to get your letter ignored. And, please, don’t bother with saying you won’t see New Moon, at any time. Refusing to see the movie because of one casting change would be a slap in the face to the rest of the production and to Stephenie. Besides, can you really tell me you won’t still want to see it? Come on.

And people who say they will not see the movie if they recast him are pathetic. Personally, i love the book so much that I dont care who does the role, as long as they do it right.

They can’t recast Taylor. He is perfect for Jacob. And only a 50 million dollars budget is low especially thinking of the special effects needed to do the wolf transformations. I hope Summit doesn’t mess this up.
I think they should at least use taylor for some of the beginning of New moon and then maybe use some special effects to combine both actors looks (which is definitely possible) and make it a gradual change to Steven. This way you only use special effects for a little bit during Jacobs growth spurt instead of having to use them on Taylor throughout the next 3 movies. I think Steven will make a fine Jacob it’s just that I don’t think Jacob can just jump from a 16 year old looking guy to a 26 year old looking guy instantly, there has to be some kind of gradual change.
k just read that maybe Micheal Copon will replace taylor after the change… i hate that idea… i really like taylor’s take on jacob, i would be so flippin depressed if that happened. hope it’s not true… also imdb.com lists taylor, kristen, and the rest of the cullens under there cast, though it in pre-production… i thinks a good sign they might be keeping him.

I loved Twilight, but the stupidity of Summit Entertainment is really starting to put me off. First of all, the rediculous amounts of money they made off of not only ticket sales, but MERCHANDISE sales should make that budget like…ten times higher than 50 million. And secondly…
I LOVE Taylor Lautner. They can’t just change the actors of the film when they feel like it. Hey, for Eclipse (if there is one after all this madness), why don’t we replace Kristen Stewart with Miley Cyrus?!?!?!
