Well…at least he is a good writer. I hope he knows what he is in for….. |
| by anna on December 13 - 3:10 pm PDT |
at first i was pissed that he was the director only bc im terrified of any man directing new moon/eclipse and ruining the movies. this does give me a lot more hope, though. im praying he doesnt mess this up, but im still really nervous |
| by Kaite on December 13 - 3:20 pm PDT |
I’m one of the few people who think that he’ll do a better job with this than Hardwick. |
| by Haley Alice Cullen on December 13 - 3:22 pm PDT |
ok so first of gender has nothing to do with it! guys if we want to expand this to others, as Twilighters we should allknow that it doesn’t have to be for just girls! There is something in it for EVREYBODY.As for Chris directing..of course im overly anxious but i would’ve been anyways despite who was chosen.Im sad to see Catherine go,but i have high hopes that Chris will do a phenomenal job. |
| by Cullen on December 13 - 3:25 pm PDT |
I am very, VERY interested in what he does with New Moon.. from seeing the Golden Compass, I can see a relation between Hardwicke’s and Weitz’s looks. I’m excited! I think it might be a good choice! |
| by Jade on December 13 - 3:25 pm PDT |
Dear Chris Weitz AKA Screenwriter of “The Nutty Professor II: The Klumps”, |
| by Stephanie on December 13 - 3:28 pm PDT |
I was nervous with Catherine, but had since relaxed and accepted her as the director. Now my nerves are back again. Here is to hoping something good comes out of all this mess. |
| by Rosee on December 13 - 3:34 pm PDT |
When I heard Chirs was going to be the director I wasn’t sure about why they picked him. But I realized “The Golden Compass” won an Acadamy Award for speical effects. So they probably wanted to make the special effects better. But Chris’ note does calm me down a little bit, but I will probably be scared until opening day. Good Luck! |
| by Nickname(Raye) on December 13 - 3:45 pm PDT |
I agree with Katie! Chris(t) Weitz I believe will be the savior of the Twilight movie series! From seeing most of his past work I’m just glad I can at least count on good cameras that won’t make the film look like a Lifetime or ABC family television mini series film. I actually think Meyer’s book has a very masculine undertone and I think a man directing a woman’s book is just the proper mix the Twiilight series needs. I am so stoked about this change. We have to be honest The film formatting, cinematography, editing, and directing was horrible! The Movie was enjoyable I saw 4 times, but the book deserves soooo much more! |
| by Lema on December 13 - 3:48 pm PDT |
well, he does really care i guess, he cant do a terrible job, i know hell do good. lets just hope for the best and wish him a freakin good luck lol. anyway twilighters, remember that the book will always be better, cuz its ur imagination, but watching the movie is seeing it how other ppl made it. anyway, cant wait till it comes out. |
| by Jessica Minozzo on December 13 - 3:52 pm PDT |
i hopeee whe does a really good job and make new moon just like the book and tht new moon makes millions. |

| by ObsessiveCullenDisorder on December 13 - 3:58 pm PDT |
well i’m hping he does a fine job with this movie! …and hope they dn’t officially change jacob black/taylor lautner too….because jacob’s just jacob! |
| by Megan on December 13 - 3:59 pm PDT |
it seems like he feels that the fans and their wishes are important, so hopefully that means he’ll do a good job! i’m gonna wait to decide til i see stuff from the movie, but i think he has potential to be a good choice. |
| by Lindsay on December 13 - 4:06 pm PDT |
I’m excited for the director change. I loved ‘About a Boy’ and I think Chris will do great with New Moon. Don’t get me wrong I love Catherine…but I think Chris will do it better. |
| by Loveskellan on December 13 - 4:09 pm PDT |
Sounds good! Catherine sucked, hopefully he’ll do well. |
| by sharley on December 13 - 4:24 pm PDT |
omg he sounds nice i think he’ll do a good job :] |
| by suzy q on December 13 - 4:36 pm PDT |
the poor man has been denounced for literally no reason…I feel so bad for him and think it’s quite sensitive of him to write a letter to the fans and address their concerns…I am happy with a new director and wish him well… |
| by yashi on December 13 - 4:39 pm PDT |
yeah lets give tha guy a chance , some of the best romace films where done by men so the gender thing is not that important he really seems to want to do a great job soo we the fans should encourage him and not judge ok |
| by Shantel on December 13 - 4:46 pm PDT |
I don’t mind that he’s a guy. I’m just worried that he’ll ruin New Moon. I really love New Moon, and I’m terrified that he’ll take out important things. Or that he’ll take out one of my favorite parts in the book, which is when Alice is talking to Jasper on the phone while she and Bella are flying to Italy. But, I’ll keep an open mind. |
| by AK on December 13 - 4:54 pm PDT |
It will be interesting to see if the two movies flow together and will have the same sort of tone or style to it as twilight did. I want them all to flow together like the books do. |
| by nikki on December 13 - 5:01 pm PDT |
i wuld like to say congrats to chris, and that i hope he does well… and in catherines defence the directing was spectacular in twilight, and amazing to see her use her directing skill in action… but i think that most people dont realize that it was the screenplay that made the movie a tad bit off |
| by Christy on December 13 - 5:03 pm PDT |
After reading this, I hope he means what he wrote and that he will do his best to remain as faithful to the book as possible. So I say that we should just wish him luck and hope for the best, because at this point that’s really all we can do. Let’s support him and believe that he will do justice to our precious books. |
| by victoria on December 13 - 5:06 pm PDT |
i don’t recall any director ever writing a letter to the fans of a book series explaining to them how he will handle his task at hand. and for that revelation alone, i believe the next film is in capable hands. |
| by Jane Doe on December 13 - 5:09 pm PDT |
I hope he doesn’t do it tooo corny and greasy! I don’t like those typical love triangel movies like the most julia roberts movies or notting hill blabla. |
| by elizabeth on December 13 - 5:17 pm PDT |
im slightly scared… the golden compass wasn’t that good. but i heard (from my parents) that american pie and about a boy were really good. so im sort of in the middle. i just hope since he said, dear lovers…. of edward bella AND JACOB that he mayjust keep taylor. i loathe jacob black in the book, and dont like taylor lautner in real life, but he is the perfect jacob. so i hope chris really will make us happy. |
| by dana on December 13 - 5:24 pm PDT |
Let’s face it ladies and gentlemen…..Twilight was not a good film. Given our fandom base, we all (myself included) MADE SURE we watched it many times so that the total would guarantee a sequel. My hope is that this change will be for the better. Both of the leads are far better actors than this script and direction allowed. I wish they would change Melissa Rosenberg. Sticking closely to the book certainly pleases the fans, but it was very evident that the script did not give the leads much to work with. Let’s all keep our fingers crossed and give the new director a chance. |
| by Ginny on December 13 - 5:26 pm PDT |
okay so now that he’s said he has promised to stay true to stephanie meyer’s works, all of you guys can CALM DOWN about the rumors that Edward is going to be in the whole movie. now, I don’t personally know Chris Weitz, but as any other person, I trust him not to go back on his word. the end. |
| by Swan on December 13 - 5:26 pm PDT |
i hope he’ll do the best ;]] |
| by AlissaDawn on December 13 - 5:38 pm PDT |
would it really be a bad thing if we got to see some of what Edward went thru while he was away too? Is there a law that says the movie has to follow the book to the letter? couldn’t the movie compliment the books? We have all read the books and know them for thier value to us. For me, a big part of the movies would be to get a little bit “more” of the Twilight experience! I’m hopeful and excited no matter how it turns out. I see no way for it to be a “bad” movie, so no matter how it goes I will be just as exceited to experience more Twilight….forever! |
| by Mary-Kate on December 13 - 5:45 pm PDT |
CHRIS WEITZ IF YOU ARE READING THIS ALL I ASK IS THAT YOU PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE DONT RTECAST ANYONE!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
| by taylor on December 13 - 5:47 pm PDT |
he sounds like he’s promising i think he will do just fine. I can’t wait till it comes out |
| by julia on December 13 - 5:52 pm PDT |
ok so im not that surprised. i actualy had a feeling there was going to be a guy director. but let’s just see how it turns out…………………. |
| by Serena on December 13 - 5:53 pm PDT |
I pesonally beleive he would an amazing job and not cause he is male but because he has a goal and he is willing to see it through. Can’t wait to see the movie. |
| by Serena on December 13 - 5:54 pm PDT |
*do* an amazing job… |
| by TwilightCrazy on December 13 - 5:55 pm PDT |
I hope he doesn’t mess up the movies..I mean.not that hes a bad director..but well yeah…I just hope that the movie will be like Twilight.like most of the lines ARE what the characters actually said..I really hope its like Twilight..or maybe better..But i also hope he that he actually stays true to Meyer’s work |
| by Angela on December 13 - 5:56 pm PDT |
Cool. i hope he does a better job than Catherine. Twilight really was a good film but its also a forgetable film. |
| by taylor on December 13 - 5:59 pm PDT |
Think about Shakespere wrote Romeo And Juliet, so i think a man would make a good director and i really hope none of the characters get chaged because i thought all of them were perfect for the roles in Twilight i also hope that he doesn’t take the good parts out of the book because in Twilight the meadow scene was so far off and that was one of my favorite parts in the book. I think he’s going to do a really good job. |
| by Ryan H. on December 13 - 6:01 pm PDT |
YEAH DUDE! FINALLY ANOTHER DUDE. I would back you up all the way. please dude make it a great film. A little more acton and horror wouldn’t be bad. Teehee! Yeah ! Make it more intresting. |
| by Ryan H. on December 13 - 6:04 pm PDT |
Oh and also its okay if you change that Taylor guy. My girl friend is all team Edward and doesn’t like how Taylor played Jacob. So if you change him its okay. whatever you do don’t change Rob. She will go MAD |
| by emilyyyy on December 13 - 6:33 pm PDT |
I’m sortof excited Pleaseeeeeeee please please keep Taylor though, he’s fantastic. |
| by Trinkie on December 13 - 7:43 pm PDT |
just please keep taylor, he seems passionate about the story… also, what’s with the budget? i think people will calm down if these things were addressed. |
| by TwiMomLaura on December 13 - 7:45 pm PDT |
OKay Chris we’ll give you a chance. Thanks for the letter it was very professional and appropriate. I just have one request (if you read these blogs) PLEASE get the love story right. Even if you don’t have enough money to do decent special effects…….focus on building the love story. We want to FEEL the agony of Edward’s departure and the bittersweet love when Bella finds him again. PLEASE add the little details in the book that we all love. While Twilight was good I felt Catherine missed a few key opportunities to build the relationship. The lullaby scene wasn’t described, they never said “I love you”…..the tenderness. On another note I’m bummed for Taylor Lautner I really thought he did a good job. I know he’s young but I think most of us don’t really mind. Try to keep him!! |
| by Hanna on December 13 - 8:40 pm PDT |
Catherine made Twilight all it could be. I will miss her, but nothin’ we do will bring her back. So, I’m prayin’ for Chris. I hope he can pull it off. |
| by Hannah on December 13 - 8:57 pm PDT |
I’m anxious to see what kind of job he will do – I don’t think I’ve seen any movies he directed. It will be interesting to see but I’m indifferent on how I feel about him at the moment. |
| by Wendie on December 13 - 9:16 pm PDT |
This letter from Chris Weitz is so heartfelt… I loved the first few iines about him being in a “whirlwind romance” with the Twilight books… That is just how I felt this summer when I finally got around to reading Twilight. I read them in days and adored them! |
| by NOT Weitz please! on December 13 - 9:21 pm PDT |
OME! NOT HIM ANYONE BUT HIM!! HE DID A CRAP JOB IN TGC! IF ANYONE SAW THAT FILM THEY THOUGHT ‘WHERE THE HELL WAS THE ENDING??’ HE DIDNT KEEP TO THE BOOK AND QUIT HALF WAY THROUGH ASWELL AS BEFORE THE CASTING CALLS!!! PLEASE SACK HIM AND GET A BETTER ONE! |
| by Nicole on December 13 - 9:36 pm PDT |
I was utterly touched by this letter. I have total faith in this man to deliver the most breathtaking New Moon movie we could hope for. I can’t wait to follow his journey as a director and am astonished and impressed by his willingness to take on this incredible task with such fervor and in such short a time. I truly feel the love he has for this series that has just been placed upon him, I too remember falling impossibly in love with Twilight in mere days. |
| by Katie on December 13 - 9:38 pm PDT |
I think hes gonna do good, he seems very sure of himself, so thats a good thing. i just hope he knows what there is in store when he chose do to things, there are so many expectations that he has to live up to. |
| by Katie on December 13 - 10:01 pm PDT |
I think he sounds really dedicated, which is good. I am truly anticipating how New Moon will turn out! |
| by Meg on December 13 - 10:08 pm PDT |
Nicole, I agree 100% with you! I’m really excited about having a new director. I LOVED Catherine….but she irked me just a bit when it came so some of the changes *cough*Special effects*cough* she made……I’m glad Chris is so passionate about this……I’m excited to see what he comes up with! |
| by TwilightIsForever on December 13 - 11:07 pm PDT |
okay, i think i’m going to trust this guy.. |
| by kim on December 13 - 11:36 pm PDT |
I’m glad that he is taking the time to acknowledge that we are a group that matters. So far he’s okay in my book. Lets see how he fares… |

| by Alanna Cullen on December 14 - 2:28 am PDT |
I was happy when i first heard them say they were considering him for new moon because i saw the golden compass and loved it! The movie inspired me to read the rest of the HDM series. I will expect the best from and im sure he will deliver. |
| by aeyc on December 14 - 8:45 am PDT |
I appreciate that he sent out a message to all of us fans! He listens to our concerns. That’s what you call a good director. I’m so confident of Chris Weitz now. At least I can see New Moon and Eclipse be treated well and be fun to watch on the big screen. |
| by EmmettLover on December 14 - 10:57 am PDT |
he sounds really devoted. but at the same time i am REALLY worried. maybe its better to hav a new director. doubt it but. catherine was great. she had lots of fun and respected us fans. i guess we r gonna hav 2 wait and c. |
| by Cierra on December 14 - 11:07 am PDT |
I’m extremley worried about this.. honestly, I’ve heard about his “Keeping it close to the books” .. I’m not really that expectant about New Moon. [my mom just found muddy gloves] Anyways. I’m really.. kinda of woried. >.< I hope he doesn’t screw it up. |
| by Lori on December 14 - 2:07 pm PDT |
“For the last decade of my career as a director, I have chosen to make adaptations of complex and involved works of literature. ” Yeah and we all know how that worked out. Two words, Golden Compass. I am so dissapointed, he’s going to screw up New Moon and screw up the fans. |
| by NOT Weitz please! on December 14 - 2:33 pm PDT |
Lori I agree he screwed up the golden compass. I hope he proves me wrong and sacks Taylor as Jacob and cast Michael Copon or Steven Strait as Jacob. If he screws new moon up me and my twin will slip into depresion (again first time was when edward left) and slit his throat, cut his privates off and then cit his eyes out of his head. But if he proves me wrong, I’ll love him forever. |
| by megan on December 14 - 4:16 pm PDT |
Guys, i dont think we need to worry THAT much! Summit must have good reason of picking him,(assuming Twilight means something to Summit…) and i’ve never seen any of his movies, but i’ll rent them and see what i think. But lets think this out here: he has experience. (he’ll capture the passion between E and B) he has great special effect skills. (i’ve never seen the Golden Compass, but just from what i’ve witnessed and heard, those effects were impressive. And, the wolves are worth worrying about.) He’s done other book to movie adaptations! (Thats great for us! Twilight was a great movie, but there was not enough sizzle between E and B. Well, that first kiss was the definition of passionate, but i mean they never said the I Love Yous!) ><>>> So, all the I am asking for is a good movie that will have my eyeliner and mascara flowing like a waterfall when Edward leaves Bella. I want it close to the book; same dialogue when he leaves her, and when he comes back. Between that, i dont care. So, long story short, Chris Weitz, I believe in you and i know that New Moon will be delicious. |
| by Stephanie Black on December 14 - 7:00 pm PDT |
i just hope that they keep taylor lautner! i have complete hope in Chris Weitz and i’m not worried about it at all. i think that if they do get rid of taylor a lot of the fans would be really disappointed and upset cause i know ill be. |
| by valuree on December 14 - 8:21 pm PDT |
I am glad that Chris Weitz has chosen to do New Moon- I have seen his other movies and he does a wonderful job especially at the special effects- I just hope he doesn’t change any of the actors except for maybe Jacob, LOVE Taylor but I don’t think he will be able to portray Jacob in this movie- but if they do keep him I will still see the movie several times like with Twilight!!! |
| by Lani on December 14 - 10:06 pm PDT |
Im sort of happy that they replaced Catherine H.(no offense to her and even though i dont agree with everything she did in twilight i still love her because of who she is) and im not against with the fact that he is a GUY! im ok with that it’s just dat im not sure with him because the GOLDEN COMPASS sUCKED! And the fact that it was adapted from a book!! Im jst scared that he might screw up but other than that more power to him!! |
| by Lyndsey on December 25 - 1:44 pm PDT |
I think this is great news and it will be interesting to see what he does with the book. I hope he sticks more to the dialogue and content of the book to be honest. I think she kind of made her own version up which ruined it. I really hope he does all the sequels and organises more auditions for Brittish people (HINT) as i think Robert is excellent and would love to go for a part such as Renesmee! would be awsome! ha. |
