Surely it was a good way to die, in the place of someone else, someone I loved. Noble, even. That ought to count for something. — Bella Swan, Twilight | Preface

Stephenie Meyer’s thoughts on Chris Weitz

Stephenie Meyer has a new update on her site:

I’ve had the chance to talk to Chris, and I can tell you that he is excited by the story and eager to keep the movie as close to the book as possible. He is also very aware of you, the fans, and wants to keep you all extremely happy. (Torches and pitchforks are not going to be necessary.)

I’m excited to work with Chris and I think he brings a lot to the table, not the least of which for me is that he wrote the screenplay for and directed one of my favorite movies of all time, About a Boy. I’m really looking forward to seeing his vision for New Moon.

Stephenie also has some cool pics from the Twilight premiere here!

**Thanks to everyone for the tip! =]

  • Courtney:

What about shovels? Do we need shovels? Or possibly chainsaws? A jar of dirt perhaps? Lol jk. I’m sure he’ll be fine. I think About a Boy was pretty cool 2.

  • It looks like they are hinting that taylor may not be come back as jacob. :( Notice how his name is not mentioned…

“In NEW MOON, Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart) is devastated by the abrupt departure of her vampire love, Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson) but her spirit is rekindled by her growing friendship with the irresistible Jacob Black.”

I’m really disappointed. He’s the director for The Golden Compass, which, as a movie, sucked. Royally. It’s another of those movies where unless you have 5 hours, you’re not gonna fit everything in. But he changed names, how things happened, and the order things happened. I loved the Twilight movie despite things left out and changed, but The Golden Compass as a movie? EPIC FAIL. It’s best left to the book. I hope New Moon and Eclipse don’t turn out the same way.

  • NEWMOONISDOOMED:

Hate Chris. golden compass was awful soooo different from book it sucked this will suck KEEP TAYLOR

  • EmmettLover:

well i think that stephenie is gonna talk to him if it doesnt go the way its supposed to. i mean she knows us fans. we will b pissed if the movi goes to the dumps. which would really suck.

  • NEWMOONISDOOMED:

and i believe we might need the pitchforks

  • Cierra:

I’m going to keep the pitchforks and torches in my dresser drawer just in case. -.-

  • Im gonna have to agree with every1 im pretty suspicious about chris directing new moon. He pretty much killed the golden compass when adapted into a movie. pitchforks is not gonna fix anything, im just gonna leave earth if new moon goes to hell!!!!!!!!!!

  • Simmer (=:

Directed to Rita: The Golden Compass may have sucked in your opinion, but as a director, it’s not his responsibilty to decide what stays in the movie or how they happen. That’s the screenwriter’s job. Therefore if you think New Moon may turn out not even remotely close to the book as per the director, please remember it’s the screenwriter who’s at fault.

And I for one, can’t wait to see how a man directs this iconic love story, and really, really hope they don’t replace Talyor.

  • sarah:

if steph gives him the heads up i might aswell too!!

i never saw the golden compass but about a boy is very good so, if he has the passion for the book then lets give him a go

  • VampireTears:

I saw Golden Compass, which at the time I hadnt realized was a book. I enjoyed it to a certain extent. I havent read the book yet, but I plan to. I did think it was filmed well though and the effects were satisfactory. (And Im pretty picky about that kind of stuff.) So hopefully Chris will do okay. Id like to see New Moon have a less Indie-film feel to it. I was really NOT expecting that with Twilight. =(

  • Ihateweitz:

NO NO NO! This is the worst news I have heard for a longgg time. Chris Weitz is the last person I want directing anything that matters to me! For those of you who saw the Golden Compass and liked it, you clearly didn’t read the books. I did, every year since I was 10. They were the most important thing in the world to me. I waited for the Golden Compass movie for 2 years, with realistic expectations. I know that one never fully enjoys a movie based on their favorite book. BUT WTF CHRIS WEITZ!!!? He ruined everything about it(I blame him twice over as he was also the Editor, never a good idea to do both!) He changed major plot twists and ended the film 3 chapters away from the real ending, effectively ruining the moving tragedy. I have hated him ever since. I almost wrote him hate letters, that’s how much I dislike him! His other movies aren’t exactly great cinema either, I mean About a Boy was watchable but do I really want the Director of American Pie Directing the next Twilight?? NO NO NO NO NO! CHRIST WEITZ YOU ALREADY RUINED MY MY FAVORITE BOOK OF ALL TIME< DO NOT RUIN MY SECOND FAVORITE!!!! As a Twilighter I am adamantly opposed to this decision! NAY I SAY, NAY!!!!
