But even once Copon (or whoever else) is officially announced as the new Jacob, Weitz still has many other key casting decisions to make and an extremely brief amount of time in which to make them. With barely 12 weeks until cameras are due to begin rolling, the “Golden Compass” filmmaker needs to find faces to portray several key characters — including the peace-keeping, Italian vampires known as the Volturi.
With the buzz building for these roles, MTV News has confirmed that 27-year-old “Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian” heartthrob Ben Barnes is throwing his hat into the ring. The actor is already quite popular with the “Twilight” fanbase and shares the same manager as both Copon and “Twilight” star Cam Gigandet. Barnes is believed to be campaigning for the role of Aro, a mind-reading vampire whose “New Moon” encounter with Edward and Bella helps shape their destiny together.

Perhaps i’m truly odd, but I had this odd impression in my mind of Aro being an older, decrepid, more wrinkly papery looking sort of guy who moved with smooth quality – strangely enough, like the soundless nightmare demons from one of the eps of buffy the v. slayer…[i dont like buffy *apologies in advance*]….its interesting to see that ppl see Aro as a sort of younger guy — did i miss somethign in the books?….also i totally agree..i cant blv that they wana replace lautner….i read somewhere about it being becoz of child-working hours legal issue thingy…. ie he’s 16…and working around him with time being of the essence [the way they're rushing to make this next couple of movies]…isn’t gna fit with their plans….[pisses me off so much]…[i really thing weisz is the wrong director for the movie...i don't want any cgi at all..twilight worked beautifully without it.....all the best movies used minimal cgi...eg Gladiator, Braveheart, etc etc etc don't know why i picked those two but anyway]
I hope the new director will realize the major problems from Taylor fans, and the potential ‘falling out’ from hard-core fans. Not to mention the movie discrepancies that fans really despise, the very discrepancies that can turn a perfectly good movie series into a joke.
I agree with you KV…. the distress is really off-putting – I wish I wasn’t so sad to end up with nightmares the last week….[might have been the flu]…but it is really scary how a good thing can turn very sour very quickly. And I think that Taylor shoudn’t even be an issue for them…Bella is ‘not that tall anyway’….so they can work it surely …..i mean how did they get over the tall small issue with Gandalf and the darn hobbit ppl in Lord of the rings…[not a big fan of that either but they didnt do so bad with the big small thingy]….

I think Ben Barnes would be perfect for Aro’s role. Something about him just seems exact…but they should definitely keep Tayler for Jacob’s role.

Like everyone else, Taylor is perfect for the part of Jacob. No one else could pull him off, you can’t change the cast after the first movie! Jacob black is an indian, so how do you expect an asian to pull him off?? Everyone fell in love with Taylor as Jacob as soon as he came into the movie, I think the movie won’t be as good if they don’t have the perfect characters for each and every role.
i think taylor should play jacob.he is perfect 4 the part and no one else can pull it off.i mean, in the 1st book they didnt include all the parts 2 twilight, so wats the difference!!!????i pictured aro older though.but i guess ben would b ok for aro. but please!!! keep taylor!!!!!!he is the only person who can pull it off!!!!!
I will be so upset if Taylor isn’t Jacob!!!!!! He is perfect. I DONT CARE IF WHATS HIS FACE COPON GUY IS TALLER!!! As a die-hard Jacob fan, it was so hard for me to read. I can barley stand it. If it happens, I might not be able to bring myself to watch the movie….just because if their pulling stuff like this, to me this is a clear indicator that this movie is going to be a HUGE joke…All my Jacob fan friends will feel the same way to…this is absolutely ridicules….I really pray they don’t go threw with is….If they do, I see this movie being eaten alive

I think the right choices have been made for New Moon So Far! I think they need to make the right choices for the remaining roles of the Volturi family. So many blogs, I really like Highmore or Conti for Alec. I think Conti is more like a kid still and angelic looking as in the book. But Weitz will decide I guess. Alot of choices but not all are right for the job. Most are too old and too tall to be a twin to Dakota, she’s pretty small. Conti is only 5’4″ so I think he’s got the right stuff!! Hottie in the making too!!
why do they keep changing th plot of the original novel?
