With a $167.3 million overall domestic take as Sunday, per Box Office Mojo, Twilight made more than four times its reported $37 million production budget—the best rate of return on any film in the 2008 Top 10, including The Dark Knight.

Well obviously the Dark Knight was bigger than Twilight. But Twilight got a better return because they had a smaller budget with a huge fanbase. Although maybe if the budget was a bit larger they would have gotten more new fans.

This is nothing to brag about. It just means the studio got greedy and put no money whatsoever into the production budget of Twilight. Yet, since there’s so many fans, it made 4x its puny production budget.
The Dark Knight costed over $180 million to make and you could tell more work was put into it. Twilight, on the other hand, had a budget of only $36 million.
If anything, you should be ashamed of the movie and the studio for being so cheap.
ok I hafta admit, first of all, I LOVE Twilight, ’specially the books, but the Dark Knight was so much better I cant compare them. Twilight might have been a little too much of a ‘flick’ to me, but its still really good.
just a add on. Dark Knight shouldnt be compared with Twilight. They are two completely different genres! And either way, we all know Dark Knight was better made, and in my opinion better overall. I hope New Moon does good with the new director, I’m excited to see how he does.
I’m sorry to any Batman fans but I personally dislike him so I’m happy that Twilight may have done better which kinda makes sense because Twilight has a bigger fanbase. And in my opinion Batman only did so well because Heath Ledger died I’m not trying to insult anybody thats just my opinion.
well i think that the dark knight was bigger in people going to see it obviously. but we have the stronger fanbase, and probably the most repeaters…. ive gone six times. so idk
dont worry Lisa. I agree with you that Twilight has a bigger fanbase though. The twihards should be given medals for waiting those years for the movie to come out!

I know you’re not trying to insult anyone, Lisa but The Dark Night Was Heath Ledger’s LAST MOVIE so it makes sense that so many people would want to see it in his memory. The movie was edited to have more of his scenes in it as a sort of tribute and it was an EXCELLENT movie and did so well for so much more than simply the death of a much loved actor. it was beautifully done.

ahaaa… – add on to what people were saying about heath ledger and his last movie and that….i agree with everyone about twilight’s fanbase, but the dark night didn’t only do well because of heath ledger…i mean, obviously it makes sense that a lot of people went to see it in his memory, but it wasn’t only him that brought people to appreciate the film. it really was a great movie and all the actors did an amazing job, but i get what you’re trying to say and the dark knight and twilight are both very different movies about different things so you can’t really compare the two. i love them both though.

I think you should’ve written more on why Twilight was bigger than Dark Knight. The Dark Knight had a much bigger budget than Twilight, so for Twilight to produce 4x its budget amount is great. I love Twilight, it is the one book out of the saga series that I can actually read all the way through and not skip any pages. But I think The Dark Knight was much bigger because of obvious reason, not to mention it was a entertaining film from start to finish.

Twilight is amazing, and I’m glad that it is doing so well. That’s awesome that Twilight made so much more than it’s budget! It means that the next movies and the series will be able to have a bigger budget.

That’s horrible twilight was a horrible movie, i love the books but that movie was ugh! they should’ve put the money used on making the movie to charities or something. The dark night was awesome and a great work of art, twilight…was not.

I think there’s a question mark in the headline for a reason. “Twilight Was Bigger than Dark Knight?!” No, Twilight was not “bigger” than Dark Knight, only it’s return rate. The Dark Knight was an amazing movie; the actors did a terrific job, the visuals were incredible, and the storyline was not just based off action, but it also had some sort of moral to it, In terms of quality of movies, The Dark Knight definitely is better and bigger than Twilight. In terms of fanbase…The Dark Knight attracts a much more diverse group of people whereas Twilight is mainly composed of young teenage females which in my opinion, already puts Twilight ahead with a stronger fanbase. =P In the end, I really don’t think you can compare these movies to each other because they are very different; the article was not only about those to movies anyways…i find it smart that they chose to focus on those to movies in the headline..they knew the article would get more attention that way. hahaha

ok, I’ve been thinking about this… so are people comparing whether the movies were better as in better liked or as in made or what? Cuz i mean, everyone here is probably a total twilight fan, and most are not total Batman fans, but they seriously have probably a equal amount of fans since Batman gets the guys and girls in it, where as twilight mainly gets teenage girls. As for Special Effects, Batman nailed that, and i kinda thought the ‘vampire running’ in twilight looked like a stick person. Twilight was awesome and i have NOTHING against it, but Dark Knight was a bigger film none the less. Both were excellent though!

i think twilight has a big fanbase right now.. but lots have love batman and will contiue to love it..im not sure about twilight. my mom and brother loved the batman movie.. but they would never go see twilight in theaters.
Twilight ‘won’ because of screaming 13 year olds. Batman could easily kill Edward. Thus the fangirls attempt to kill me.

The dark Knight is obviously the better movie here. Because Twilight didn’t actually make more money the tweeny fan girls are resorting to things like statistics which has nothing to do with the quality of the movie. The fact that 170 million is four times the budget should say something in itself….Twilight was an okay movie but it isn’t in the same realm as the dark knight. With a worldwide gross of 900 million and an American gross of 500 million it’s the second highest grossing film of all time. In a year or so all the tween fan girls will have long forgotten Edward the sparkling vampire ,but Ledger’s amazing performance will last for decades to come
I loved the Twilight movie: it was WAY better than the book times a million.
However, the Dark Knight was the better! The movie just had more substance and the Joker… oh my God, you’ve gotta love him!
If I had to choose between Edward Cullen and the Joker, the Joker would win no contest; I love him and HATE Edward with a burning passion.
