Good news about New Moon from director Chris Weitz:
“I’m very happy to announce that Taylor Lautner will be playing Jacob Black in New Moon and that he’s doing so with the enthusiastic support of Summit Entertainment, the producers, and Stephenie Meyer.
The characters in Stephenie’s books go through extraordinary changes of circumstance and also appearance; so it is not surprising that there has been speculation about whether the same actor would portray a character who changes in so many surprising ways throughout the series. But it was my first instinct that Taylor was, is, and should be Jacob, and that the books would be best served by the actor who is emotionally right for the part. I think that fans of Twilight the book and the movie will be surprised by the Jacob Black that Taylor will bring to the screen in New Moon; and I’m looking forward to working with him and the rest of the cast in realizing the film.

I’d just like to add that I was very much a part of this decision. My first priority was always what was best for New Moon—what was going to give us the best possible movie. I’m truly thrilled that Taylor was the one who proved to the director, to Summit, and to me that he is the best possible Jacob we could have. And I’m very much looking forward to seeing what he’s going to bring to Jacob’s character this year.

i feel like weight has been lifted! i trust taylor with this role. i can’t wait for new moon! and to be honest… if breaking dawn is going to be made, i can’t wait for that depth and comedy from taylor! people note the chemistry between kristen and rob or kristen and taylor but the conflict between rob and taylor will be what sells me. in the prom sence we see a hint of that… edward looks worried as jacob looks, dare i say, wolfishly confident. i rant… but this is just as important.
I just hope that he will do a fantastic job as Jacob in the second book and pull it off like he did in Twilight! GO Taylor u have done well. make us all proud!!

Chris got it right when he said the most important part is that the actor get the emotional connection with the character – whatever if they don’t look exactly like they do in the book. Movie Rosalie doesn’t make book Rosalie, Movie Emmet doesn’t match book Emmett and so on. Yeah for Taylor and New Moon!!

I’m quite pleased by the choice of Jacob. Taylor will do a good acting job. He was the right choice.
My only concern is if he is already gaining weight how will the transformation be dramatic. When Bella first goes to him to fix up the bikes he knows nothing of the wolves and is upset by the gang. LATER he turns and there is a huge difference in his appearence… Will we be deprived of the ealy bonds of thier friendship which are the start of so much more?
