THR: Despite the success, you’re going in a bit of a different creative direction with Chris Weitz directing “New Moon,” the sequel.
Patrick Wachsberger: If you look at “Harry Potter” — or other movies sort of like “Harry Potter,” I shouldn’t compare — but they change director every movie. The second book is slightly different. (There are) new characters and more visual effects. Catherine (Hardwicke) did a fantastic job (on “Twilight”), and there is a naturalistic feel to the movie that she created and we’re going to keep. The first movie was very good, and we hope the second movie (will) be even better.
THR: Will “New Moon” stay in the same $38 million budget range?
Friedman: No. The next one will be higher than that. We believe that the film will naturally be more expensive. Sequels become more expensive, and we have more special effects.
Wachsberger: And locations. In the second movie there is a sequence in Italy.THR: There is talk that because Edward is out of the picture for much of “New Moon,” there will be elements of the second and third books combined into the second movie.
Wachsberger: No, but Edward is present for the movie.

wonder what the “different direction” for the movie was with Catherine? I can’t stand the teasing, I must know what they’re gonna do!!! Glad they aren’t adding Edward in extra places, hopefully good news for staying by the book
So.. they aren’t incorporating parts of Book 3, but somehow Edward is present during the movie? Are they totally re-writing the story? or just making the whole movie based around the beginning and end of the book, with a really short time when he’s gone?

even though it is my least favourite book, the plot is important to the rest of the saga…
You guys do need to calm down.
Of course they need to be thinking about Eclipse already! They need to film these movies really close together since Bella & Edward aren’t supposed to be aging.. If they wait until New Moon is done to start thinking about Eclipse, it will NEVER be filmed in time!
Additionally, don’t complain about the new director thing until we have a chance to see what they do. If you read what these guys are saying, they say that different directors are good for different kinds of movies. All of the books are veryyy different, and I think it would be terrible if we always kept the same director when there might be another director who would do it better. Give them a chance before you complain.
ps I don’t know where you guys have been if you haven’t heard of James Mangold, the *RUMORED* director of Eclipse. First of all, it’s only a rumor and second.. He has directed some wonderful & very well-respected films.. Try IMDB.

I agree with “Team Edward” I do hope they stay true to the book. it is my leaste fav as well (well until alice shows up)
… but it should keep the wonderful story line it does have. To Emily and Scarlet, ladies you passion for the saga is very loyal, please don’t stress yourselves out with the fickled minds of the the ugly part of the entertainment buisness. Stay positive and with fans like u we will be able to one day see all of our beloved books (frm saga) on the big screen 
. New Moon will be wonderful. We have a talent cast and crew and gifted director and loyal fans like you! So don’t stress just yet. Love ya twilighters have a fab weekend I will be in Vegas this weekend!

I could really care less who the director is as long as they don’t put the Twilight saga to shame and the movie is SPECTACULAR! Than its all good!
i will be really upset if they add edward in the movie. i mean, i’m deeply infatuated with rob pattinson and seeing him would just make me happy but the best part about new moon is the fact that we don’t even think about him being with bella until she’s in italy. its the best comeback ever. i think you really need that longing to see him for the reentry to make the emotions as deep as possible. it’s just important to stick to the book. i dont know why they would consider changing. i wonder if stephenie would approve of that?
Maybe they will show some scenes of Edward when he’s off by himself?
Plus, there was a lot in Twilight that was different from the book.. I wouldn’t be surprised if they let them change some stuff. They prob think more girls will go see it if they put Rob in a bigger role.
They only mean he’s present at the beginning and end probably. I’m not going to overreact to something little he says and blow it out of proportion. And of course he IS PRESENT in Bella’s hallucinations. Don’t forget that.

Calm down everyone. Don’t jump to conclusions….maybe when they say that Edward is present for the movie, they mean that they’ll show him off tracking Victoria. That would be okay so that people who haven’t read the books know where he is and what’s going on? Just a thought….
Just wanted to comment that I am glad they are going to keep the natural feel that Catherine brought to Twilight. I like that it wasn’t all blockbustered out. Although we can all agree that the budget going toward better special effects is definitely a must.
LOVEVEGGIEVAMPS I couldnt agree with out more. Emily, Scarlet, CLAM DOWN! This guy could be a better director. I hope they dont change the movie too much though. I mean I loved all the books so it would be really sad if you didnt see the drama of the whole thing. I mean LOVEVEGGIEVAMPS like you said, they might show Edward tracking or when Bella heres him in here head they might show him beside her or a little cloud of something but nothing too drastic. Im glad that they acually said they were going to spend more money and follow the book as much as posible though. Im sooooooo team Edward, it will be soooooo sad when he’s gone. Taylor is hot too but I Like Rob/Edward better. I will probably ball my eyes out. I wish I had one of you hard core Twilight fans with me there to see it. i think that what they were talking about showing more edward was when catherine was going to be the director. so in “reality” lol there not gunna add more edward. knowing cris he stays to the plot line and doesnt do dramatic changes. manglod does do good movies but i feel they shoulnt change directors cause we havent seen anything of new moon yet. thxs ash for helping me see clearly lol anyways and yea they should be thinking about eclipse but excatly now cause there only in pre production filiming hasnt started. but anyways well see rob hopefully more in the end of the movie the most. lets just hope for the best and hope the rest of the saga come out great

the book….BUT I LOVE HIM!! I want him there but its just not what happens…..
Guys, remember that this is a *movie* and there are people that are going to see it who haven’t read the book. There has to be continuity, and things have to be changed for it to make sense when you don’t have all this background knowledge and insight into exactly how and why certain things are happening. I think we all just need to trust that these people are going to be trying to make the best-possible sequel to our beloved Twilight, while also creating something that will bring the same emotional impact to those who haven’t already read the books. I’m actually looking forward to what they’ll come up with for New Moon.
