I can confirm that Summit Entertainment is telling Hollywood privately that Juan Antonio Bayona will direct Eclipse. It’s a very out-of-the-box choice for the 3rd movie in the “Twilight Saga” series of Stephenie Meyer vampire novels being hurried to the big screen by the start-up studio.
ugh. when i read this, i was totally confused. first of all, juan antonio has never directed an English film (eclipse would be his english debut!!!), second; he specializes in horror/suspense (the suspense im fine with, the horror, not so much), third; he’s reported to be a protege of many movies, not an actual director.
i really have my doubts about this guy. im asked for experience, a person with the vision that portrays the love n struggle that bella faces. i dont think this guy has it. im furious if this is true. i need summit entertainment to confirm!

HELLO SUMMIT, WE NEED AN OFFICIAL STATEMENT. It’s getting a little bit confusing.
I’m a little scared if this guy ends up being the director. He is well-known for his horror work with Guiermo Del Toro, that we don’t know if he can even do romance.
And Eclipse IS ABOUT THE ROMANCE TOO! Sure, there’s a lot of action, but a helluva lot of romance as well.
I guess we’ll just have to wait to see if this rumor is true and pray he knows how to do more than just horror flicks!
The Orphanage was not just a “horror” flick. Beyona nailed the emotional bond between a mother and her child. I couldn’t be more excited. Eclipse is full of suspense and more action than the other books, so I want a director who can build the suspense, while nailing the emotions of the actors. Jumping for joy!

Hopefully Summit say something official soon! All these choices and all the talk is too confusing…and hello they need to hurry it up so it will be out next June as they’ve already officially stated.

Summit, we need an OFFICIAL statement, not just these rumours that may or may not be true. Eclipse is not a tptal horror movie, a large part of it is romance. He better do a good job if he really is director.

look on wikiapedia and look him up haters is his english debut but in his filmography it says eclipse(2010)at the bottom so unless they change their mind in the near future it looks like eclipse has a new director but I agree we need to have someone that has a veriety under his/her belt not just two or three generes especially when any of the genres aren’t romance. And I am worried if he knows anything of the books or will keep true to them. But remember the producers are a big part of it too b/c they are the ones, besides the production company(summit)are the ones to pick the director not the other way around so if they aren’t positive he will do a good job they would not of hiered him BUT i have some doubts. All I know is if he is directing he better not mess it up!!!

Eclipes is one of my favorite books out of the saga, and I really don’t want anyone to make a mess of the movie. I don’t know who this guy is, but I would like to see it portrayed as a romance and not a horror flick.
um… What if Chris Weitz does such an AMAZING AND PERFECT AND WAYY BETTER THEN TWILIGHT JOB? THEY MIGHT THEN RISK IT WITH A NEW NOT SO WELL KNOWN DIRECTOR AND HAVE THE CHANCE OF FIFTY FIFTY OR LESS? IF CHRIS DOES WELL, STICK WITH HIM! Chris could do a damn good job and then we have this guys come in, and he could SCREW it all up? Then the movie series would be uneven and suck. Just saying, Eclipse is my favorite of the books and Twilight too but they REALLY need New Moon AND ECLIPSE to be MUCH better then Twilight in the CGI and set factor. Sorry, its just my opinion and I really trust Chris to do a good job but I dunno about this guy.
And I Just looked him up. All his movies are in spanish! Not saying that has anything to do with his directing, BUT it might effect it. I DO NOT like this decision by SUMMIT.

I don’t care if he’s spanish or not. You do realize there are spanish editions of Twilight? If a person can direct, they can direct. And he is clearly more amazing than Catherine Hardwicke. Can’t make an opinion of Weitz yet.

i have NO clue who this dude is, but if he is directing it i hope he doesn’t screw it up=( all my doubts and worries r the same as all of u; since he’s known 4 horror is the romance going 2 b there? will him doing mostly spanish movies affect the outcome of Eclipse? i don’t have n e thing against spanish speaking ppl, obviously, bcuz i’m mexican myself, but is he going 2 b able 2 grasp ALL the aspects of Eclipse; the horror, action, AND romance.*sigh* i guess i’m just going 2 have 2 sit and wait and say Hakuna Matata.lol.i really do luv that motto.lol. we got 2 TRY 2 have some faith that summit is doing the right thing.which 4 some reason i’m having a hard time doing.
yea this is definitely getting a bit confusing. summit needs to say who the director will be. maybe weitz cant do both eclipse and new moon because they are sooo close together. i dont know. i dont really understand why they feel the need to keep changing the director. love is a huge part of eclipse i really do agree with that. but i think summit is focusing on the whole fight with the newborns.. i dont know. and raven you cant trust wikipedia. anyone can go on there and change something. my friends changed the date of pearl harbor one day just to be funny. i checked imdb.. and nothing was on there yet… so and official statement is definitely recommended and SOON!!!

Let’s look at the facts. Eclipse has a lot of romance, like that hot scene in the bedroom. Not to mention the drama between Edward and Jacob. It’s more about that, SUMMIT. Not abou thte ending.
However, the ending does have horror. The violent and gruesome fight scene. That was great. But SUMMIT, it’s not all about the horror. We fell in love with the romance. This guy, never saw his films, isn’t a romantic…..He won’t be able to make us feel love between the characters, it will be what males go and see. It will be a senseless disaster.
I DON’T LIKE SUMMIT. NEVER DID. Summit it way too cheap. If Twilight was done by Paramount or something, then it would have been great. The quality would’ve been great. It wouldn’t be rushed. We could find our hearts jumping when we saw love between the characters. It would’ve been Oscar worthy and grammy worthy. But Summit is just….Not a great movie company. Even if Paramount was the one that had the fang policy, I don’t care….. I DON’T care about fangs. I DON’T care about time. I CARE about QUALITY!!!!!!!!

I agree with you Buffster. I’ve seen the orphanage, and it was a great movie. He really captured what a mother goes through when her child is lost and will do anything to find him. I know most of you think he wouldn’t do such a great job, but before you pass judgement, go rent “The Orphanage” Yes it’s in spanish, but it is wicked. I think he can bring all the chemistry to Eclipse. So go out to blockbuster or whereever there is a movie rental and rent it. I guarantee you won’t be disappointed.

Meliisa Cullen, I agree! I am so over this entire fiasco. I am not looking forward to New Moon and definitely not looking forward to Eclipse. Summit is determined to ruin this series. Stephenie Meyers is nowhere to be found and refuses to stand up and say NO. I am an old fan and this is my escape. I was so happy when I found something I loved to read as much as Harry Potter. However, I think Stephenie Meyers should take some cues from JK Rowling. Rowling is always very careful to reject anything that contradicts the story. There is a difference between changing the intent of the story and changes due to time. Hardwicke changed the whole story and attempted to add smut.
