Star Pulse discusses what needs to be done to make New Moon better than Twilight.

With this past weekend’s release of the DVD Twilight, starring Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart, several fans are already looking ahead to the future of the incredible series by Stephenie Meyer. Certain fans (myself included) believe that New Moon was their least favorite out of the four books, so we have high expectations to make this movie shine (like Edward!).

  • Wow u guys are in the game. They are filming Vancouver

  • crystal aka leah:

New Moon HAS 2 b better than Twilight! w/ 3 million copies sold 1st day the budget has 2 b huge. so yeah it has 2 b amazing!

  • Lindsay:

It won’t be hard to make it better than Twilight.

  • Lindsay:

Oh, and, they better make it better, seeing as it’s my favorite in the saga. ^_^

  • Jacob_Black_fan:

I totally disagree about what the author says about Jacob. He becomes confident as a result of his Werewolf transformation. It is integral to the character and the plot progression.

  • leah:

Dude… I disagree with the whole Jacob opinion. stick with the book in the New Moon movie… I would love to see Jacob go after what he wants, also i really love Jacobs fun personality with Bella in the book. This is his chance to shine and for the viewers to get to know him and to build the close relationship he and Bella have… without understanding that deep connection, Eclipse wouldn’t have made sense, or would have been disappointing.

  • jacqueline:

i agree with crystal. not only does it have to be better but it’s going to be better on a whole other level than twilight. the second book is so different, n bella grows up somewhat from the chracter from the 1st book. plus i have hella high expectations when it comes to portraying the volturi.

  • vivien:

i agree JACOB_BLACK_FAN. Plus, his overconfidence was more amusing than annoying, to me. He brought comedic relief to the depressing new moon!

  • jacqueline:

haha i laughed when she said she wants the volturi to make James look like Barney. haha

  • crystal aka leah:

    hey! i’m 1st!LMAO. I didn’t even notice that!LMAO. N E ways, yeah, 1st time being 1st,yay!

  • cullentwins:

dude new moon is my least favorite book.almost hate reading it cuz edward leaves, but i want 2 c the volturi and they’re gonna have to make it better 4 thoughs team edwards) to stay awake lol

  • Marra:

Breaking Dawn is my least favorite book. I don’t get the hype!

New Moon the first read through was annoying because Edward left, but the best parts over all the series was from New Moon! I love rereading parts of this book! I love Alice!!! I love them in Italy when they meet the Volturi. I especially love the vote! I can’t wait to see New Moon come to life!

  • Edward:

To be honest I thought how she dwelled so much on Edward’s leaving was really good, I thought it brought a lot more emotion to the story, and I feel that given how she felt about him it was needed for it to seem more real, and Stephenie did forward a few months for us so it was toned down after a while, once those few pages passed. And I think if Jacob’s attitude is changed from what it is in the book it, to me it wouldn’t be staying very truthful and furthermore there isn’t any reason why his tone should try to be changed I thought he was a good blend within the book, yes he was different than the Jacob in Twilight, but you can’t expect characters to never change that makes them very one symmetrical and really does take away from the experience and makes it harder for you to connect and really know the character, character development is a huge part of any story it helps your connection grow with the character it’s one of the main reasons this series is so great because the characters are so three dimensional and in depth that they seem real like that they exist and I’m sure somewhere out there, there is an Edward or two or a few people a lot like Jacob. So really if people wanted the movie to be good for both “Team Edward” fans (such as myself) and “Team Jacob” fans. It should be proportioned right, say if the movie is to be two hours long again, it should be about twenty minutes for the party and overall leaving and then maybe twenty minutes for Bella’s grieving and recovery periods, and then another thirty to forty for Jacob time still recovery parts here and there, and then the remaining time for Edward saving and the Cullens returning, this is just my opinion.

  • Joan:

Actually New Moon was my favorite book out of the Twilight saga. The angst, the pain and the coming back together of Bella and Edward is wonderful. Jacob has a role in it to or there would not have been a good story arc. So I have very high expectations for New Moon…the bar has been raised and I think the cast and crew know it.

  • Loveskellan:

New moon was ok to me. It was just how bella acted. I couldn’t stand it. As for the movie my expectations aren’t high. I mean i think the effects will be better but k-stew shows zero emotion. Everyone is good except her.

  • rubyxjade:

New Moon was my favorite of the whole series! It was the most visual read I got through the books(Italy!), plus after than Bella gets kinda needy and annoying… I still love them all though!

  • shelbi:

ok the person who wrote the article drove me insane, he said “Let’s try to tone his attitude down and just make his “sureness” amusing instead of annoying.” that part when jacob is going through those changes cant be amusing, i think the annoying part of that makes the character more real, and im glad Stephenie made that in the book because the guy said “This was not the Jacob I had gotten to know in “Twilight.” As a friend, that kind of behavior can be good, even helpful, but we all know that friendship was not what Jacob was after.” of course its not the same jacob in twilight he wasnt a werewolf in twilight and he changed, so yeah that person got annoying

  • shelbi:

“Ok, Bella misses Edward. We get it.” and like of course Bella misses Edward, a beautiful vampire who really loved her broke up with her. yeah thats my opinion

  • Kate:

    well i think that they could ruin the movie or make the movie in 4 scenes;

    1. The Jasper trying to kill Bella Scene.
    2. The Edward saying goodbye
    3. The jumping off the cliff
    4. The Edward proposing

I hope they don’t screw these scenes up!

  • shel:

I agree! Wake me up when we get to Italy or to “The Visitor”. The cliff diving scene is good to, but there is a lot they could skip in between. If they add more to the Jacob thing than there is in the book it is going to be disappointing. Jacob is great up until he changes. He becomes obnoxious and even more so in Eclipse. I know the majority of the younger fans on this site are obsessed with Jacob, but I wish they would keep the story accurate. Most of the time Bella is expressing her guilt of the entire situation. I’m sure Kristen will convert this into her own form of stuttering babble.

  • emilyNJ:

wow…lots of good points made friends…after watching twilight for the 3rd time this week i am really starting to get annoyed with kristen’s “stuttering babble,” as shel put it so well.
i think now, everyone knows what they are doing. they did not expect twilight to be as big as it is, and they are raising the bar for new moon. it’s the same thing with the harry potter movies (i know i always go back to this), but after the first 1 or 2, the rest of the movies were amazing. we just need to keep being supportive and i’m sure the rest will come together!

  • Angie:

It was necessary for Edward to leave, as much as I hated reading that part. It was so emotional. But it also made Bella mature and in the end, made both Bella and Edward realize what they had in each other. Their love was strong and could endure anything. That was an important set up for the ending of the series. I liked Jacob at first. He was kind, considerate and Bella’s rock. However when he became a werewolf, his personality changed too much. I found him cruel and manipulative. He knew how much it hurt Bella to hear Edward’s name and as a werewolf, he started saying it. It will be difficult to film the emotional part but I think they will go past that pretty quicky – and focus on the action instead.

  • foreverinyourheart:

Besides everything that was stated in the article (which was all pretty spot on). I believe that New Moon will be better because CH isn’t directing it.

  • Naomi:

Kristen’s “stuttering babble” – what about Rob’s painfully horrible expressions? Even he laughs about it. His acting was not the best. At least when she was stuttering it was in a scene that was intense and I could imagine someone stuttering because of the emotion involved.

  • brookie:

i completley disagree. i think that jacob should be so assertive and able to tell Bella how he feels. thats how it is in the book. i am totally team jacob, so. i am very excited about the movie, and even though i am not in love with edward, i will still cry when he leaves as i did when i read the book. i read it 3 times and cried every time! i think that there are a few scenes that need to be absolutley perfect………

    the whole papercut jasper scene
    the goodbye scene
    the cliff jumping scene
the volturi scene needs to be absolutley amazing! of course!

so yah im very excited for november 20, 2009!!!

  • Erin:

Well I love all the twilight books but I would have to agree new moon is my least favorite of the four books. For there is mostly just bells and jacob and don’t get me wrong I don’t hate the Jacobs character but I like edward better. So it will be intresting to see how spectacular you can make the next movie new moon.

  • when i first read New Moon I did not like it!! to be honest, but when i read it a second time I actaully changed my mind i liked it.
the paper cut scean have too
    the goodbye have too
    cliff diving have too
the voltri have too and when edward proposes have too.

    Go team edward!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Sherry:

From the beggining i didn’t like Jacob, but he was Bella’s rock while Edward wasn’t around. Jacob is kind of annoying. His personality changed a lot when he transformed into a werewolf. He dosen’t want Bella as a friend… he wants something more them that. But I think that Bella will stay loyal to Edward after what all they’ve been through, and the situations that their going 2 go through.

  • TaylorFanNr1:

new moon is my favorite book.. that is because i love jacob so much… and you get to feel what bella is feeling .. it is a very good book… and i can’t wait for the film!!!!

  • I just hope that Kristen dosen’t overact when she does the scene where he leaves…It will either be really really good…or….horrible…Let’s all hope for good.

  • GottaSay:

I just hope they’ll manage to balance out the ‘grieving part’ with Jacob and the action part with the volturi. I don’t want 80% of the movie to be about Jacob. Even though in New Moon Jacob was still an okay character (he was not obsessed with winning an unwilling Bella back from Edward yet), the scenes I loved the most in NM are the ones with any vampire in (thus beginning or in end of the book). So they better not overlook these and focuse on the Jacob part (I’d hate 30mn of Vampires vs 90mn of Jacob).

But I’m sure they’re aware that people need to see more of Edward and the vampires. And I’m also sure that NM will be great, they know the audience has even higher expectations, they have to live up to that. The movie is also the opportunity to make everyone happy with the bigger budget and the knowledge of what the readers disliked or wished for in NM.

  • Juclael:

When I read New Moon I fell into a hole similarily deep as Bella’s. It’s good. The reader feels that nothing new is happening, he just reads on without emotions, just the way Bella continues to live: without emotions. I think that’s a great achievement for Stephenie Meyer.

The best song for the Volturi, that describes the madness and their passion about killing, is ‘Take A Bow’ by Muse. It fits perfectly to the arrival of the Volturi at the end of Breaking Dawn. LISTEN TO THAT SONG!

  • Bekii:

It doesn’t take much to make it better, they missed out a lot of the good stuff in twilight. I think they should use Your Call – Secondhand Serenade. It sounds so much like New Moon! Type it in, it seriously does :L I think that it might be ruined by the way the wolves look . . .

  • Alice:

i think that they are certainly gonna have to make it good cause without rob 4 most of the movie i dont no wat im gonna do lol. my friends r all jacob fans but i find him to be annoyin and always gettin in the way of edward and bella. edward cullen is sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo hot.

  • Joan:

If I were Kristen Stewart looking into Rob Pattinson’s eye’s…I would probably start studding too. Frankly in Bella is only 17 and when I think back to when I was that age, I don’t think I would have been anymore articulate then she was at those really emotional moments. Now that said I think Kristen carried out the role ok and she played I think a pretty strong overall Bella. Just saying.

  • Joan:

Should be studdering…she what happens when you think about Pattinson.

  • emilyNJ:

point made…any red blooded female would stutter if face to face with the glorious edward/robert!

  • alyuriko:

i actually really like new moon. i think the only problem they’ll have with making new moon is being able to make the were wolves look real! otherwise, i think it’ll be just as easy as making twilight. well, i wouldn’t say easy…

  • Valerie:

My hope is that they will capitalize on the Italy portion as it really is the most exciting part of the book and brings the 2 back together. To me that was the best part of NM.

  • OH MY GOSH I CANT WAIT FOR NEW MOON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    :D

  • New Moon was the best book out of the series by far! With Weitz a the new director, I hope he takes in consideration the mistakes that Hardwicke made, digests the book and realizes the parts in the novel that MUST be in the film.

  • Tenisha:

I love the Twilight Saga! I worry that the New Moon movie will have too much Bella-Jacob and not enough Bella-Edward. I just hope that the movie gets plenty of what we fans wanna see Bella and Edward.
