Fandango Interviews Robert Pattinson

Fandango: Is it harder playing a real person, as opposed to playing the fictional Edward Cullen who had his story laid out in black and white?
Pattinson: I think in a lot of ways it’s kind of the same. You’re still playing fiction even though you’re playing a real character. It’s the same kind of approximation of somebody. The only thing that you can take from the book is the general outline, the mood changes, the emotional changes and development. I’m not playing it exactly as it is in the book.

Fandango: You’re just getting started shooting New Moon. How are things going?
Pattinson: The interesting thing about this one is that so much of my character is in Bella’s head. It’s based on a mixture of memories and nightmares. Bella thinks she is going mad. I get to do some really creepy stuff. In other words, Bella is really frightened of [her hallucinations]. It’s really, really different than Twilight. I think that a lot of people will be kind of scared by this one. I wanted to try and put that into Twilight but I couldn’t really find a way to make Edward scary.

edward as a memory and a nightmare. i just know im going to burst into tears whenever i bella thinks about edward. i dont want bella to be frightened of her nightmares, i imagined her more as suffering from her nightmares. but i must stay positive and trust weitz.

just to add, at the end of the interview, i understand and totally agree with rob when he mentions that he doesnt want to be known for his hair. he is a very talented person adn very sexy. his hair isnt what makes him sexy, but it sure does help.

Interesting that they used the fan-made New Moon poster for that article. I wonder if they even realize!

Can’t they ask him anything besides his Bloody hair! I’m sick of that stupid subject! Bleh! Ask real questions about his dreams/goals/family/nightmares/ something of substance I think I may go mad if I see another teeny bopper article on how “cute and sexy” he is!!! Ok we get it he’s nice to look at! come on!! what else is there to him thoughts/theories/opinions/belifes? what is at the core the heart of this easy going actor?? give me depth if there is heart to him? give me spirit… something… other then this brainless dribble of Ohow does it feel to play a sexy vamp and ur hair is sooo amazing! Bleh! :X robert if u read this. show me heart! show me ur nit just another pretty boy shallow idiot doing what the producers tell u? there’s got to be more to u!

Great interview. Robbie is very articulate and intelligent I might add. Does not sound like a spoilt, big headed pratt at all after all the new foundfame. Very humble and down to earth I say. Go RP, fulfill your dreams. Write more music too! MIA

well i wish he DID act exactly like edward in the book. he KNOWS thats what fans want…. i love him either way to pieces, but edwards not really “tortured”, honestly. i personally think a lot of girls are TJ because robs not acting out edward properly. dont get me wrong, i would NEVER EVER replace him!!!!!!!!! but its just my opinion.

It worries me when he says this one is going to be scarry and that Bella is scared of her hallucination, she isn’t scared of them in the book, in fact she welcomes them, she tries to have more of them so she can still have a little piece of him, so him saying that makes me wonder if they are doing the movie the way it should be done.

This is just a random comment, but do ya’ll get tired of seeing all these cute guys wereing taboggins (I’m thirty something and from TX, so that’s what I call those hats, I’ve heard other people say beannies) what is wrong with a good old fashioned ball cap. Everyone knows Rob by thoses toboggins, he should switch to a ball cap and he would be less recongnizable in public. Just a thought.

I love Robert! He’s so honest and unpretentious in interviews.

I’m not sure why he seems so focused on having a “scary” Edward. I don’t think it fits. Bella stalks her hallucinations because she misses him and can’t live without him. Even in her dreams, the terror of them is the emptiness without him. How do you fit scary into that? I just hope the don’t miss the connection and real honest love between Edward and Bella (as we didn’t get to see it develop in the Twilight movie).

The scary vampires are the volturi, not Edward.
