Who Should Be The Director For Breaking Dawn?

The LA Times has an article on possible directors that they think should direct Breaking Dawn.

“Breaking Dawn” will see the light of day and that’s exciting news for “Twilight” fans who thought it couldn’t be done.

With countless challenges ahead for anyone hired to helm the project, Summit would be well advised to take their buckets of cash and invest in a director who knows makeup, special effects and young love and won’t balk at the thought of a rapidly growing vampire baby. Not to mention inheriting the vampires and werewolves of past directors Catherine Hardwicke, Chris Weitz and David Slade.

Who is worthy of such a challenge? We’ve thought of six so far….

I don’t really have a particular director in mind but I feel that it would be nice if whoever ends up directing “Breaking Dawn” shows more attenton to detail. I liked “Twilight” but I feel that it could’ve been more interesting especially in terms of hearing more dialoge from the Cullen family. For ex. it would have been nice to see Alice have that interesting conversation in the hotel- this didn’t happen in the film

I believe that Len Wiseman would do a great job with this film. I think he has the experince to really bring out the gore and action in the book.

As much as I absolutly adore Peter Jackson’s work, he’s TOO good of a director for Breaking Dawn, so I don’t want him to be doing it.

I think the guy who did the Narnia films would be the best choice.

@ NAVEENA: i totally agree, the director should pay attention 2 detail and not 2 mention the other things that were talked about in the article, special affects and young love and all that. i also agree about the hotel scene, i was upset that wasn’t in the movie, and that part was kind of important, it shows how Alice and Bella become closer..and Jasper. and did u notice that in the movie they never mention Jaspers gift? of course we all knew it was there, but they never mentioned it.

NOOO!!! They’re going to mess this movie up! Don’t get me wrong, I love the book, but it match any of the character details. Technically, throughout the saga, it spans about two years. Well, making the movies will take about six years…you guys do see the problem with that right? Rob will grow older, and he won’t be that Edward we all know and love, and kristen will also grow older. This really infuriates me!

BUT ANYWAYS THE REST THEY MADE OUT STANDING MOVIES AND ESPECIALLY PETER JACKSON AND LEN WISEMAN I MEAN COME ON HOW AWESOME COULD THAT BE IF ONE OF THEM WERE TO DIRECT BREAKING DAWN? I LOVE UNDERWORLD AND LORD OF THE RINGS WAS SO FAITHFUL TO THE SERIES!

@RobsessedTwilightFanpire actually, the movies are only going to take 3 years to make.. the first one being released last year, NM release in november, Eclipse released in June, then BD at the end of 2010… thats 3 years, not 6 but NM and Eclipse are being filmed this year and BD early next year, they won’t age that much, and if they do, then there is always make up and special effects to make them look younger.. its really not a big deal… i don’t know who should direct BD, i guess i have to agree with most people and say that i am waiting for the next 2 movie to come out so i can make my decision…. I LOVE THE TWILIGHT SAGA!!!!! You ROCK SM!!!

i too agree with naveena, i just wanted to add that i really wnt breaking dawn to me made into 2 movies, because the story is just so long and that any director that wants to stay true to the book would not want to compact all that information in one movie.

anyways, i want someone with experience. as long as that director makes sure breaking dawn is kick ass and is at least as good or even better than new moon and eclipse.

breaking dawn is gonna be so tough to film. wouldn’t it be cool if the cast could decide how it will go?? they know their characters. it’d be interesting to see the outcome of that.

out of topic, but does anyone think that kristen looks a little like idk tired, out of focus, a little coo coo ca choo? in the pic above? she’s either conveying that emotion or really pissed

I like what Jacqueline said about making 2 films for “Breaking Dawn”. This is what’s gonna happen w/Harry Potter 7 since it’s soooo long & so much happens in it. I like Jacob_Black_Fan’s idea too. It would be neat if the director’s of the first 3 films direct “Breaking Dawn” together. That would be sweet!

Thumbs up to the six choices. They are all good directors. But my personal choice would be Peter Jackson. The LOTR trilogy was so amazing..plot, make-up, costume, special effects, you name it all. My second choice would be Len Wiseman, then Gulliermo del Torro. I can’t believe some want CH back when she butchered Twilight.

I feel that Breaking Dawn should be like the movie The Cell! For the youngins look it up it’s with JLO from 2000! The best costumes, lots of light, very strange and sexy! You have so much you can do with all of the visual in this book… unique costumes from around the world, a beatiful love cottage in the woods, and the special effects really have to be good or it can get cheesey with all of the powers! I don’t want to see it get to dark like Underworld and if you can make JLO look like she can act you must be good!

i honestly don’t care who directs breaking dawn but they cant just show the beginning of bella giving birth and then just stop right in the middle. i think i speak for everyone when i say the whole point of us fans going to see the movie is so it is as close to the book a possible. not to sound perverted or anything but please leave the sex scenes in too. those are very crucial because they show how bella and edward are becoming closer every second they are together.

I think Catherine Hardwicke would be a bad choice, just because I really think the first one would’ve been better without her directing it. I hope New Moon will be better with Chris Weitz, I think he would be good for breaking dawn based on his work with The Golden Compass

Oscar winning Peter Jackson is my pick for Director of Breaking Dawn. This movie will be the most difficult to bring to the big screen because of its graphic content. Just as difficult as JRR Tokien’s Lord of the Rings novel. Peter can handle the love story along with all the unnecessary gruesome parts in Breaking Dawn, as he did in The Lord of the Rings trilogy. He can bring the balance needed.

I think Chris Weitz should direct Breaking dawn because he stuck VERY closely to the book, AND talked to Meyer to make sure he was right for the job!!! I was VERY pleased with the werewolfes that he projected in the New Moon film!!! I just think we need to stick with someone that will please Meyer AND the fans!!! I just dont want ANY of them to be messed up!!

CATHERINE HARDWICKE for Breaking Dawn!!!!! Please! She created the brilliant TWILIGHT. She has the “feel” of the books. NMoon stumbled to be honest. Very disappointed with that. Think Catherine Hardwicke would have the best feel for the wedding / honeymoon / birth / transformation / life as vampire / Volturi showdown. No matter how long it take Catherine to film it, & no matter how much money she needs – please Summit – give it to her!!!! CATHERINE HARDWICKE for BREAKING DAWN!!!!

CATHERINE HARDWICKE for Breaking Dawn! Especially after that awful NMoon-yuk. Catherine would probably also bring back Carter Burwell and his beautiful music, including Bella’s Lullaby, which was so touching in TWILIGHT. Catherine Hardwicke is THE one for Breaking Dawn – the ONLY director who is perfect for it.

It’s such a shame that with new Moon they decided to put a guy who doesn’t have any clue on how to direct a romantic film to direct New Moon, it really sucks as a film.

Catherine, Catherine, Catherine Hardwicke should direct Breaking Dawn. Everybody forgets that the books are written from Bella’s point of view. This is a very “female” fantasy story and Catherine showed in TWILIGHT that she “gets” this totally. Plus, she made a sexy movie with lots of heat but NMoon wasn’t sexy at all. It was just awful.

The directors that have been floated for BD are all men. Not that men can’t get this story but honestly, it is a woman’s epic and the handling thereof was done with such deft and perfection by CH in Twilight. Bring her back or at least a woman with an equal pedigree. NM sucked.

You guys are crazy for thinking Catherine Hardwicke would be best for BD. She was a horrible director, she left out so much detail in Twilight. She also added way too many of her own scenes rather than putting in scenes of what really happened in the book. My vote so far goes to Chris Weitz. 1. Because he captured NM almost perfectly
    2. The cast LOVE him which makes great chemistry and 3. He follows the book and with BD being 2 movies it would have so much detail! So my vote goes to Chris Weitz.

Catherine Hardwicke hands down for Breaking Dawn. She was given a lousy sum of money to create a film with, and she didn’t stick to the book because the screenwriter didn’t give her a script that stuck to the book. But the passion, emotion, and heart in her characters are incredible. The connections between them are so intense. It was Catherine Hardwick’s work that transformed Stephenie’s work into the phenomenon it is today. Twilight the movie brought the characters and the world of Twilight to so many new audiences, who in turn fell in love with it. Chris Weitz’s film is very true to the book, however, the emotion, the draw, the intensity between characters is lacking. I don’t believe a male director can create that depth. So, although a third director was chosen for Eclipse, also male, I hope with everything inside of me that a female director is chosen for Breaking Dawn. And Catherine Hardwicke has the edge it takes to make the movie something truly moving.

It should definitely be a male to direct the last movie. There is to much energy and tension in the last movie. I feel the first 2 movies were well suited for women directors, as the first one was good at establishing the relationship between Edward and Bella. The second one needed a woman’s touch b/c a lot was left out of the relationship between Jacob and Bella. Breaking Dawn, with the sex scene’s, the pregnancy and birth, the tension in the field with the volturi, it just needs to be a man to establish the danger, and the action.

I think it should be James Cameron. He is amazing, is not afraid of how long his movies are. He has a nack for romance mixed with danger and as we have all seen from avatar, he is very creative. I would think we all want the best for this one considering the detail in this part of the saga. I think he would be the very best director this film could have. If i had a second choice, or a backup rather, it would be to return the director of new moon, Chris Weitz.

I am always too late to these but I am posting anyway. I don't really care who directs Breaking Dawn as long as it is NOT Chris Weitz. New Moon was very disappointing. He did not do a good job at all. If I could choose I would have to put my faith into Peter Jackson. Big hopes for David Slade doing better than C.W.

I personally think Guilermo Del Toro should direct it. If anyone has seen Pan's Labyrinth, there is pregnancy as well, and look at how good of a director he is! He would be PERFECT for this film! Alfonso Cauron is a good friend of Guilermo, but I don't think Alfonso would be good for directing this movie. I think Tim Burton would be exceptional, but I'd be afraid it wouldn't be right. How about Gore Verbinski, who directed Pirates of the Carribean? He's a great director, and I think he would do the last two films justice!

Eclipse looks pretty interesting. Maybe David Spade again, but I would have to wait to see what he does with Eclipse. That was my favorite book in the series, so if he screws that one up, the franchise has lost me.
I think Ron Howard or maybe Tim Burton if he doesn't use too much makeup on the actors and try to turn our favorite vampire (Edward) into Edward Scissorhands.
I'm going to go with Ron Howard. He'd get the love thing and the special effects and the story.

I just got home from seeing "Eclipse" and I must say that David Spade did a fabulous job! Both Jacob and Edward were portrayed well and the alliance between the Cullens the the wolves was great. Even though I am all about Team Edward I must say that I can appreciate Jacob shirtless and there was plenty of that! I loved that they made the proposal between Edward and Bella was nice and steamy but was nicely done and kept in SM's desire to keep them in the "old school" traditions. I believe this saga has been a great influence on teens today and as a mom and twilight fan, I can appreciate that. I would like to see the same director do "Breaking Dawn". Btw…..will that be a double movie book or just one long movie? I am REALLY looking forward to it.
