Twilight: New Moon isn’t even in theatres yet, but we are already gearing up for the third film, Twilight: Eclipse. We crashed a David Slade signing at Dark Delicacies in Burbank, California, where he was signing a new line of toys based on 30 Days of Night. “One of the cool things about shooting a movie based on a book is that it is not a film the studio can really change,” he tells us. “Not that the studio would want to change anything, of course!” David promises that they will stick close to the book – there is no sense in changing the story at all.’ Hit the jump for more.
What will differ about Slade’s Twilight? “I don’t really know. We haven’t even started shooting yet.” While the director says he has a basic idea of what he wants to do with it, he is more concerned with telling a good story than being “different.” “It is darker, and there is a lot more action than the previous two,” he admits. “The third book is from Bella’s point of view, but the film will be more objective.” And just how will he do that? “We are going to focus on the origin stories of several characters, like Jacob, and show how Bella will decide between Edward and Jacob.”

cool. i think its cool that he really doesnt seem to want to change anything and he wants to stay true to the book.
YAY…it sounds like it will be good cuz he said he is sticking to the book and there finally gonna show the origin of the characters! Maybe we’ll hear some stories now!
I wonder if Jasper’s “talent” will be introduced in NM, because it was left otut of Twilight…..Anyway glad he says he’ll be sticking close to the book’s version. But-I am not a 15 year old girl, I am 23 and I’m so sick of everyone calling the Twilight Saga a story for like, 14 year old girls. My mom will be 46 at the end of this month and she loved the movie (not as much as me!) and is very excited about New Moon coming out, though she did not read the books. I think this is a story (The entire Saga) that has a much wider audience than it has been given credit for.

does everyone no what he said about twilight when it first came out?? he said hed rather be shot then watch the movie. later he went on to say that he didnt mean what he said blah blah blah. give the film to someone with alittle more passion! ther has to be a directer out there who is just as in love with twilight as we are!! IF HE DOES A GOOD JOB THEN ILL FORGIVE HIM LOL.

I really want Eclipse to be scary though. And i really want to find out more background with the Cullens. PLEASE.
God Twilight was an awful movie.
I hope he will be careful to not make it all about Jacob. It’s really about Bella’s decision of becoming a vampire, by choosing Edward…. I’ve not seen any of David’s movies as of yet, but I may now. I want to see what his “style” is….I don’t consider Eclipse to be darker than New Moon. By the way I am a 37 year old mom with a 15 year old daughter…. We BOTH LOVE the Twilight series, and so do any other moms that I got to read the books. They’re as hooked as me, so please stop saying it’s a book for teens!!!!!!!!

Yeah i agree with Newsies aswell, he doesn’t seem that into it…. and the way he described it doesn’t really sound like the book… well it does, but not as good as the book…. and i loved the books and so did my sister-in-law and so did her sister… these books are for everyone… they did not ruin teen girls reputations, they ruin their reputations themselves… teens these days do not dress apropriately, and them wonder why their boyfriends cheat on them and dump them or they can’t even get a boyfriend… its not what guys want…but what ever… I LOVE TWILIGHT!!! (by that i mean the entire saga)….. and they should have kept chris for eclipse, from what i can see in the trailer, and spoiler clips, he has done an amazing job!!!
Eclipse is my favorite book out of the 4 and i am just really scared that this man is going 2 f*** it up… i mean 30 days of night had 2 be about the worst vampire movie of all time i hated it i really wish that New Moon wasn’t in post production or whatever so Chris can do Eclipse New Moon haven’t even came out and you can tell it going to kick ass… hopefully Slade doesn’t let us down

This interview makes me cringe. This guy is after the cash and that’s it. He clearly doesn’t respect the Twilight saga nor the fans. But, hey, we’re all just 15 year old girls, right? He didn’t read the books until he HAD to. UGH.
I worked with David on 30 Days of Night, it was filmed here in New Zealand. David is an inspirational director and I am so excited that he is directing this film. During filming he was like a kid with a new toy and his total enthusiasm for this genre rubbed off on the entire crew. Trust me people, Eclipse will be the best film of the lot, im so excited!!

I’m a little scared as well, wish we could keep Chris but they needed to make the films quick due to the aging of the actors…ugh. Slade really pissed me off with his first quotes and this article doesn’t help any further. He’s going to make it more of a POV of all the characters, not just Bella? That isn’t supposed to be until the 4th book so I’m a little weary. Oh well, I won’t really judge until I can see the first trailer of Eclipse…
well, i did see 3o days of nights, it was pretty scary. and hard candy was a lil disturbing. i just hope he makes eclipse justice and doesnt make it too scary. i agree that he should make the new borns and the volturi scary, but i dont want that fact about the story to overpower the large idea behind eclipse. which is bella’s struggle between jacob and edward and her finally recognizing the importance of her decision to become immortal.

UGH!!!! After reading this interview I hate him even more…WTF!! is he serious. I personally didn’t like the book, and I have this sinking feeling that Eclipse is gonna SUCK!!! too bad CW isn’t going to firect Eclipse..I just hope they take him back with creaking Dawn.

I love that Weitz & Slade are protecting the integrity of the story. In the Harry Potter series, they still told the story, but directors like Alfonso Cuaron tried so hard to be different that it wasn’t the same story we know and love. I have so much faith in these two guys because they are devoted to the books and bringing that across and they are learning from mistakes that Catherine Hardwicke made. I am so excited about the next two movies!!!

i dont think hell mess it up completely. it makes me angry that he says its “darker”. theres nothing darka bout true love, thats just what hes seeing it as! im glad hes stayng true to the story. i HATE when people say its a ♥ve triangle, cuz its rlly not, and bella loves jacob like a puppy compared to a brother (im trying to say the love is barely anythingof the way she loves edward) and i hate how the stereotype for twilight fans is teenage goths and losers!! grr
I don’t feel like I should jump to conclusions about David. I haven’t seen any of his work so I can’t even comment on his style or anything. Hopefully, the film version of “Eclipse” ends up being a great film. He really likes the Twilight series & I’m assuming he knows about how much this film means to the fans.
David needs to go back and read the books. Bella had made her choice of Edward at the end of New Moon. Eclipse was NOT a triangle. I am worried about Eclipse. He is not prepared. If this is loused up, the fans will be furious.
I sure hope he does it right, because like many others, Eclipse was my favorite book out of all four and I’m really looking forward to the movie. By the way I’m a 16 year old guy and I really like the Twilight series (I’ve read all the books), not like it matters, but just thought I’d through that out here.
