Los Angeles – July 28, 2009 – Summit Entertainment announced today that Bryce Dallas Howard will take over the role of “Victoria” in the studio’s upcoming production of THE TWILIGHT SAGA: ECLIPSE. Actress, Rachelle Lefevre, who portrayed the character in TWILIGHT as well as the upcoming release of THE TWILIGHT SAGA: NEW MOON, will not continue in the role due to scheduling conflicts with another commitment the actor has made. THE TWILIGHT SAGA: ECLIPSE will start filming in Vancouver this coming August.
THE TWILIGHT SAGA: ECLIPSE, the third film in the studio’s TWILIGHT film franchise based on Stephenie Meyer’s blockbuster book series, will be directed by David Slade from a screenplay written by Melissa Rosenberg. The film will be released theatrically in North America on Wednesday, June 30, 2010.
“We are incredibly happy that Bryce has agreed to come into the franchise,” said Erik Feig, Summit’s President of Worldwide Production and Acquisitions. “Rachelle brought “Victoria” to great screen life and Bryce will bring a new dimension to the character. The franchise is lucky to have such a talented actress as Bryce coming in to fill the role.”
Howard most recently starred in TERMINATOR SALVATION as Kate Connor and has been seen in SPIDER-MAN 3, LADY IN THE WATER, and THE VILLAGE. She was nominated for a Golden Globe for her leading performance as an actress in the HBO film AS YOU LIKE IT.
In THE TWILIGHT SAGA: ECLIPSE, Bella once again finds herself surrounded by danger as Seattle is ravaged by a string of mysterious killings and a malicious vampire continues her quest for revenge. In the midst of it all, she is forced to choose between her love for Edward and her friendship with Jacob — knowing that her decision has the potential to ignite the ageless struggle between vampire and werewolf. With her graduation quickly approaching, Bella is confronted with the most important decision of her life.

My commitment to ‘Barney’s Version’ is only ten days. Summit picked up my option for ‘Eclipse.’ Although the production schedule for ‘Eclipse’ is over three months long, Summit said they had a conflict during those ten days and would not accommodate me. Given the length of filming for ‘Eclipse,’ never did I fathom I would lose the role over a 10 day overlap. I was happy with my contract with Summit and was fully prepared to continue to honor it. Summit chose simply to recast the part.”

I just read an article and it says that Rachelle didn’t even know she was going to be replaced. There was a 10 day overlap between Eclipse and her other movie. Summit decided to replace her and i think this is the biggest mistake that could ever have made. You can’t change a character in midstream. It’s going to ruin the movie.

This is the second mistake Summit has made in regards to Eclipse, the first being the hiring of a hack director, David Slade. Not only does he not have any successful movies under his belt (but rather a string of flops), but he bad-mouthed the Twilight franchise before being hired (which only proves how much of a sellout he is). Once hired he quickly backpeddled and tried to say he was joking. Looks to me like Summit is trying to sabotage ECLIPSE…

Lefevre Mounting Legal Battle With Twilight Bosses Over Pay

Twilight actress Rachelle Lefevre is preparing to take movie bosses to court in a dispute over pay following her dismissal from the vampire film franchise.
The redhead, who plays villainous vampire Victoria in the box office smash and its upcoming sequel New Moon, was left “stunned” and “deeply hurt” when studio executives at Summit Entertainment announced she was being replaced by Bryce Dallas Howard for the third film, Eclipse.
Producers claimed Lefevre failed to tell them in advance that she had signed up to star in independent movie Barney’s Version and that shooting on the project would overlap with production on Eclipse.
Explaining their decision earlier this week, they said, “Ms. Lefevre took a role in the other film that places her in Europe during the required rehearsal time, and at least ten days of The Twilight Saga: Eclipse’s principal photography. This period is essential for both rehearsal time with the cast, and for filming at key locations that are only available during the initial part of production.”
Now the fall out is about to turn ugly – Lefevre has called in her lawyers to secure the salary she was due to receive for the third installment of the Twilight films, citing breach of contract.
She alleges her agreement with Summit Entertainment allows her to pursue small independent films while still being involved in the vampire franchise.
One source tells Eonline’s Marc Malkin, “Rachelle’s contract says she’s allowed to do smaller projects like Barney’s Version.”
But studio bosses are claiming otherwise and insist Lefevre is owed nothing.

Seriously, get your grip together Summit, it really isn’t the same feeling (even worse feeling) when watching some other actor being replaced especially in the middle of the movie. At least the change with Taylor Lautner didn’t go through, now that would just be completely ridiculous if he got replaced. But still, it’s just ridiculously bullcrap changing actors when your half way through the saga.

i prefer the original, but.. do your homework because rachelle's replacement, bryce is actually two years younger than rachelle. and reality check, aging is inevitable so get used to it.
i dont think its fair that bryce got the part just because of her father. i liked rachelle. i think she was a perfect victoria and she shouldnt have been taken out of eclipse

this really a shocker! replacing old character even if it's not the main character. i hope fans of twilight will still continue to support the movie. honestly…it does sucked me!
That's so sad cause Rachelle's so beatiful and I really hate Bryce Howard!! She's so dumb cause she didn't want to play Victoria in Twilight because the role was too unimportant to her and now that it's so succesful she wants to play her!!!

I don't like it. They should let Rochelle. It just isn't fair to do that. It makes me not want to like the movie. Why? She did great so far, and Bryce Dallas Howard doesn't fit with Victoria at all.
