This weeks issue of Entertainment Weekly was all based on vampires, and Robert Pattinson is on the front page!
Vampires are such versatile symbols now that they can express both conservative and liberal views. Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight novels are steeped in her Mormon values. But True Blood speaks in part for gays and, as Ball puts it, “eight years of institutionalized demonization of pretty much any group that wasn’t on the bus with Mr. Bush.”
It may come as a surprise to learn that Meyer – reigning queen of pop culture’s vampire coven – has an uneasy relationship with them. Back in 2003, when she was writing the first draft of Twilight, she refused to show it to her husband. “I was embarrassed,” she said. “It was about vampires.” In fact, last year, she told EW that her great wish was to reclaim some time to write something new. “Look, I’m not just a vampire girl,” she said emphatically. “I can do other worlds.”

BILL COMPTON! True Blood is a fantastic television series! It definitely deserves to be on the cover of Entertainment Weekly. I just started reading the books, and they are pretty great as well.
And of course Edward is on the cover too.
I hope Angel from BtVS made that list as well…

‘Kay, I’m not familiar with “True Blood”, I just think that it looks creepy, and that guy on the cover scares me. I saw a preview for TB, and it held no interest for me, but that’s just me, I am not opposed to any TB fans. Secondly, I think that Twilight is the best movie of all time and I am one of the biggest fans out there, along with all you Twilighters. I think that Edward deserves to be number 1. It was funny to me because I went with my mom to get her hair done today and that was on the table and I FREAKED out. I thought about buying it, but my mom said I had enough Twilight. (yeah, like that’s possible!) So, I think that the man that’s on the cover along with Edward, the man in TB, is one of the more stereotypical vampires, and not the Twilight vampires I have grown to love and obsess over! My opinion.

True Blood is excellent and just got picked up for a third season this week. I also enjoyed Twilight and believe that both have their place and their mutual existence benefits both. Stephen Moyer who plays a key role in True Blood has earned the lion share of the cover of the magazine. Moyer plays Bill in the series and he is not what I would describe as a stereotypical vampire.
BELLA MARIE CULLEN….TRUE BLOOD IS FOR THE MORE MATURE AUDIENCE…I’M NOT SAYING YOUR NOT MATURE BUT THAT IS PROB WHY IT DOESN’T APPEAL TO YOUR LIKING. TRUE BLOOD HAS WAY MORE THAN WHAT TWILIGHT HAS. THAT IS WHY PEOPLE LOVE IT SO MUCH AND PLUS IT HAS A GREAT STORY LINE JUST AS GOOD OR IF NOT BETTER THAN TWILIGHT. THAT IS ALSO WHY IT IS SO POPULAR. PLUS THE ACTION IS WONDERFUL, AND THE LOVE STORY, AND ALSO THE POLITICAL ASPECTS OF IT. IT’S A VERY STRONG CONTROVERSIAL SHOW/BOOKS AND THAT IS ALSO WHY IT APPEALS TO PEOPLE. WHEN YOU SAY THE TRUE BLOOD VAMPS ARE “STEREO TYPICAL” YOU OBVIOUSLY NEED TO WATCH THE SHOW BEFORE YOU SAY THAT. YEAH TRUE BLOOD HAS FANGS AND THEY DRINK BLOOD BUT ONLY THE BAD VAMPS IN THE SHOW/BOOKS KILL HUMANS. THE VAMPS WHO WANT TO FIT IN SOCIETY, THEY DRINK A DRINK CALLED “TRU BLOOD” WHICH IS A SYNTHETIC BLOOD BEVERAGE FOR THE VAMPIRES SO THEY WON’T HAVE TO GO ON KILLING SPREES TO GET THEIR BLOOD. THERE IS MORE TO THE SHOW THAN WHAT YOU MAY HAVE SEEN THAT YOU DIDN’T FIND INTERESTING. THE SHOW ISN’T FOR ANYONE WHO IS UNDER 18. SO MAYBE THAT IS WHY IT DOESN’T APPEAL TO MOST.

I agree 100% with POETESS… well except I like ERIC NORTHMAN not BILL COMPTON… but true blood KICKS ASS and ALEXANDER SKARSGARD kicks Rob’s ass any day of the week…
I agree, I love TB 100%, however I am an adult in my late twenties. I am a huge fan of Twilight, but was not impressed with the movie. Yes, I can see past Rob’s good looks enough to not be in denial either. Bill Compton is truly a southern gentelmen that I’m sure all the ladies would go ga-ga over. I honestly think that they made Twilight a little too PG for me, TB makes Twilight look like a kitten. I can only hope Breaking Dawn will get an R rating!
