Fan of the Week: August 24 – 30, 2009

Name: Crystal
Age: 35
Country: USA
Twilighter since? April 2009

I was skeptical at first. A friend from work got the books from her daughter and was telling me how good they were. I watched the movie first. Edward didn’t catch my eye until…..he saved her from the van. Thats when i got hooked. I got the first book within days and it only took me a week to read them. That might seem long to most. But I am a mother of 5 and a full time student. With all my free time I was reading the books. My husband was wondering if I was ever going to be done. I simply told him just to leave me alone, and he better just give up unitl i was finished! I think its the most beautiful love story ever told. Some people think I am crazy because of my age, but I could care less. I cannot wait till New Moom! Me and my best friend are taking our daughters.

  • robertpatt'swifey:

wow i didn’t actually think there were people that older who read the books i am seriously susprised! :o

  • Lourdes:

I can definitely relate to this story, i too am just a couple years younger than her, and mother as well. I did not know about Twilight until March 2009, i got my hands on an early copy of the DVD before national release. Needless to say i watched the movie LOVED it, went out and purchased all the books, and now I am Twilight obsessed. I am also bringing my 2 daughters to watch New Moon cant wait.

  • Mariakally:

I don’t think there’s a particular age to read these books :) I’m 26 and I’m as much a fan as any teenager :) I also can’t wait for New Moon!

  • i dont think ur age is wrong at all i made my mom read these books and shes 40! and she loved them! and so did my grandma!

  • joebecca:

I too, am a mother, and am 34… I saw the movie first with my BFF when it came out on DVD and was also hooked on the story and the individual characters. I now belong to 3 Twilight websites and keep updated daily!! I have a 9 year old daughter and 14 year old stepdaughter and they think it’s totally cool that i share their enthusiasm for the series. I also read all four books in a week and my boyfriend went about nuts!! I’m so excited to take my girls to see New Moon and we’re already talking about Eclipse and how exciting that is going to be!! The Twilight Saga is a great set of stories and a wonderful fantasy to get lost in. And THAT doesn’t have an age limit!!!! Twilight Moms unite!!! :)

  • KSmith:

I’m 32 and I’m hooked on the books also. I started with the movie last year and have watched it now about 7 or 8 times. My friend told me about the books and I had to see what all the hype was about. I bought the series and read it in 5 weeks. I’ve actually read them twice and am on my 3rd time while reading it to my 10 yr old daughter. We can’t wait until Nov 20th. My friend and I are taking our daughters. My daughter and I hunt for new news regarding New Moon on a weekly basis. I have become my friends personal Twilight Correspondent. Don’t feel bad; Twilight Moms ROCK!!!

  • Michele Olson:

OMG!!!!! Hello!!! I’m 62 and my daughter & grandaughters wanted me to read the book. I said I’ll just watch the movie & thdy said no. I was told I had to read the book first. So I sat down & started reading. Read Twilight then watched the movie. I was so glad they made me read the book!! I have finished the other three & am still in love with them!! Can’t wait New Moon, the movie. 87 days & counting!!!!!!

  • Ashley:

Its ok. I am 28 and completley obsessed with the saga. My husband thinks I am crazy. I can’t help it. I am so moved by the whole thing. It is also something my step daughter (13) and I have in common. I got her hooked. I am now reading Eclipse for the fifth or sixth time. Cant remember!!

  • Bella Marie Cullen:

Applied last week too for this week’s FOTW, as I did 2 weeks ago. Didn’t make it, but I’m really happy for you. Congrats! :D

  • C.C.:

You are not alone! I will be 36 in about a month. I have a law degree. I was a judge’s law clerk and director of a non-frofit many moons ago. Now, I stay home with the kids during the day and teach paralegal studies in the evening. I have a student who has every thing Twilight related. She totally got on my nerves. Then, the 1st movie came out. She got so hyped up. And then, my 14 year old step-daughter did the same thing. My student and my step-daughter got me to watch the movie. I told them that I wouldn’t like it. Wrong! I got hooked. I went to my library to check out these books. You would have sworn I was going to the adult book store. I told my pharmacist in passing when I picked up medicine that I got the books and felt like a wierdo. My pharmacist is my age. She read them and bought them for her grandmother for mother’s day. I read the books backwards and forwards 3 times. I have found that I can get the kids not to run around the house for an hour and a half if I put the movie in. My daughter’s 5th birthday is the opening day for NM. She wants to see the movie for her birthday. Because it’s a school night, we’ll see it Friday. My fam is super hooked and completely stoked about this saga. Much love to y’all from anotherTwilight Mama!!!! (P.S. Stephenie M. has wicked taste in music! Another reason to love the saga.) Peace!

  • Denae:

You go Crystal!! I am soon to be 45 and Totally obsessed with this series! I check the web sites daily for any new info. I got my 20 year old son hooked on the books and movie too, he used to tease me about my obsession with Twilight, now he’s just as bad! My 86 year old mother even read the books after I couldn’t stop talking about them! I have seen the movie 17 times, (6 at the theater!) I’ve got it bad!

  • Missy:

Yeah. . I am 36 and a Mother of 3! My oldest daughter got me hooked! But my addiction (it is an addiction) has far surpassed hers! lol. . Now she and I are waiting on New Moon. . and one of my best friends has my books . . she is hooked. . lol She is my age and a mother of 2! I think the mom’s have become more obsessed than the teenagers!

  • renee':

I was skeptical at first myself. First, the books are in first person. (I know its a REALLY lame excuse to not read a certain book, but I prefer to know what EVERYONE is thinking, not just one!) And second, it was a vampire story…seen them, read them…and I thought “Hey, vampire stories are all about sex, right?”
Man, was I wrong! Just like you, I read the whole series within a week and since senior finals were coming up, it was hard to juggle! But I soon found myself staying up LATE…those books became like my own personal Bible. (Not meaning to offend!)
I think its wonderful though, me being 19 and how mothers and daughters can now connect just simply through these amazing books! Thanks once again SM!

  • Keri, Tampa FL:

that is great!!! i’m 28 and i got tattoos i loved the story so much! this saga is great no matter the age!!! i just wanted to say that this fan of the week isn’t the only “older” woman out there that adores this story!!! and yay to the .org for posting a fan of the week that isn’t 13-16 for a change! : )
no offence to any younger fans!!! we are ALL Twilighters for ever!!!!!! : )

  • Victoria:

So the movie was aiming it’s attention towards the younger population but lets remember who wrote the books SM is in her 30’s . As with most women, we all day-dream about that forbidden love … why not get caught up in the books ? keep us out of trouble in real life. LOL BTW I’m 34, a mom of 2, and I’m a Twilight saga fan !!!!

  • Dont feel left out my mom never reads books and she is 35 and read the books until 3oclock in the morining her and i on different books but would be reading really late and my dad would get soo left out. Great bonding time by the way

  • PJ:

I am also a 35 year old woman with 3 children and I am so glad to see someone else my age. lol I love these books! I think that Stephanie Meyer has really made a saga for all ages. In Twilight you get to remember that feeling of first love and in my personal favorite, Breaking Dawn the feeling off love for a spouse and the overwhelming love you have for your child. Tell me any Mom out there wouldn’t have a little Vampire in her when it came to someone messing with her baby. lol Anyway…These books seem to target younger readers but they are wonderful at any age. These are rich, wonderful, colorful characters. Thanks Stephanie for giving us Moms something to daydream about!!! lol lol

  • Judy Bradley:

I am a grandmother and 63. A friend (older, even) started telling me about the Twilight last year, but she mentioned vampire and I told her I was not interested. She insisted it wasn’t the usual vampire stuff, but a love story. She mentioned it every now & then as she read all the books, I just kinda tuned her out. When the movie came out I figured it was another stupid vampire movie. Then in March the movie came to our local $1 theater, so I decided to see it. Well, I was hooked! I stayed up all night & read Twilight, went to the used book store the next day and bought New Moon (and cried all day). Anyway I have now read them all at least four times, can’t count how many times I have watched the dvd (which I bought at midnight in the midst of a her of teens). My kids think I am nuts. My daughter says I need help as I wear my Twilight shirts and plan my trip out to Forks next month for Stephenie Meyer Day (Bella’s birthday). I live in Florida, so it is no little jaunt, but I am going! One of my sons said I should go & enjoy myself as I always do for all of them. He gave me his airline miles for the tckt and paid for my rental car as a Mother’s Day gift. I just need cash for other little things like – food, car gas, etc. lol I love Twilight and the hope it inspires in all of us, young or old, male or female, single or married, it gives us hope in life and love.

  • katrina:

As another Twlight mum I can totally agree with all you’ve written.I also have friends that think I’m going nuts(who obviously not read the books themselves.lol)it has helped with my marriage and my kids sing the soundtrack in the car on the way to school.I watch Twlight every few days when I can,and have tickets to New Moon already, and cannot wait.We all need ,especially in our mid-life,some spark of romance, and to be taken back to our youth for just a little while .It credits Stephanie to reach so many people on such a personal level.Well done Steph and Thank you from the bottom of my heart!!!!

  • Brianna:

well i wasn’t really into the whole twilight thing at first. alot of my friends were and it was all i ever heard about, it wasn’t until my bestie Shayla forced me to go see the movie that i fell IN LOVE with it…. after the movie i drove to walmart (thank god its 24 hours “go wally world”) and got the first book i bought it at lets say 10:30 pm, i was done with it by 3:00 am, i didn’t even get up to go to the bathroom lol. the next day after school i went and got new moon, loved it finished it in less that 24 hours same with eclipse (18 hours) and breaking dawn (20 hours and 35 minutes). my friends say I’m crazy. but I’m just crazy about twilight! its a beautiful story, kinda makes me wish something like that was really possible you know. its not fair why cant i find my Edward Cullen! but anyway the point is, i cant stop its not just a hobby to me its an obsession. i just cant help myself. i even named my laptop Edward! my room has twilight stuff all over…. my myspace covered with twilight (team Edward woop woop) its taking over my life (not really)…… don’t believe me see for your self http://www.myspace.com/sexyeyes5. BY FAR THE BEST BOOKS EVER WRITTEN

  • I work at Borders running the young adult section, which I love dearly. I’m a retired teacher (58), and am addicted to Twilight. I run all of our Twilight parties and have a blast. I’ve even developed a Power Point trivia presentation with buzzers and everything. I even presented it at a local science fiction convention. Everyone loves it! My kids get a kick because I shop at Hot Topic for Twilight items. I ran into a young lady at a local store and she looked at me and exclaimed “Oh, you’re the Twilight Lady at Borders!” My boss that that was cool! I’ve read the books numerous times, have them on my iPod and my eBook. When people come in to the store to discuss Twilight or to see what we have new in Twilight, they head straight for me. I love having a job where I can wear my Twilight garb and jewelry (I have 6 Twilight watches!) What I find that is so awesome is that women who hadn’t read in years are reading Twiight and are continuing to read. Teens who weren’t readers are doing the same. Thank you, Stephenie Meyer! (Any chance you could write Esme and Carlisle’s story? hint, hint!) Thank you Twilighters.org for a fantastic website. I recommend it to all my customers!

  • Mandy:

It does not matter about your age, you are as old as you want to be. I am 29 and yes I Love Twilight, I have read all 4 books about 10 times this year along. The movie I watch all the time, can’t wait for NEW MOON!! All I have to say is Read, Watch, and Repeat.

  • PJ:

Gosh all these twilght Moms and things are great! We should get a 29 and over group going in FLorida!!!! Anyone els from here????

  • Twilight Moms Rock! We are down to earth, and in touch with our inner teenager! We love our kids and want to relate to them! Way to go Crystal! There are tons of us thritysomethings who love Twilight!!!!

  • Bill:

Don’t forget Twilight dads. My 19 yr old daughter brought the DVD home earlier this year and I watched it twice that first night. Since then I have read the first book and watched the movie more than 30 times. I want to see New Moon before I read that book. It’s hard to wait. By the way, I also have a teen son, am married, and I’m 47. Age doesn’t matter once Twilight gets a hold on you. It’s that good in my opinion. Very original.

  • 34:

    awesome Crystal!
My mom likes Twilight and thats HUGE for us to have anything in common! haha!

  • Courtney:

I think its great to see a ‘fan of the week’ that’s past their ‘tween-teen’ age frame! (no offence to you wee ones, I remember being that age and being ENTHRALLED in certain books and movies, and I think it’s great!) I started reading the Twilight books a while ago during my downtime as a nurse on night shifts… it didn’t take long for some of my much older co-workers to start asking questions about those eye-catching book covers. I’m happy to say I’ve gotten some 50+yr old women hooked on this heart-fluttering love story! We can’t watch the movie at work, but we relive it frequently by playing the Soundtrack on our little CD-player at our nursing station when all our patients are safely tucked in for the night! Its great to have co-workers to be able to discuss twi-rumors and the upcoming twi-movies!
Way to be Crystal! You take the shame right out of being an older Twilight addict!

  • Sheri:

I am 42 and am obsessed with the series also! I was in my last year of college when my son and daughter read the books and I resisted reading until I graduated in May. Good thing too because I could not put them down! I read the entire series in a week and have no re-read them an additional two times. I scan the Twilight websites weekly for information and expect I will be reading the books again soon! And I have NEVER read a book two times … that is how good this love story is!

  • Roxy:
