Larry at Pronetworks has updated us on yesterday’s box office total:
FRIDAY NUMBERS: Summit Entertainment has announced that The Twilight Saga: New Moon took in $72.7M from 4024 theaters on Friday, setting a new all-time single day box office record.
Friday’s number includes the previously reported all-time record $26.27M in midnight screenings. This one-day total is also not far below the $85M 3-day weekend estimate originally proffered by Summit and accepted by many industry insiders. Few expected the film to approach the $100M mark. My personal guess, which I made last Tuesday, was $110M. Based on the numbers already in, advance sales, and tracking polls, some are now predicting a $125M weekend. That wouldn’t top The Dark Knight’s $158.4M opening but would still be the biggest non-summer 3-day opening weekend of all time.
This opening day number far surpasses that for The Dark Knight, which took in $67.17M from 4366 theaters on July 18, 2008 (including $18.4M from midnights). That film’s take dropped 29.1% from Friday to Saturday to bring in another $47.65M, and ended with $43.6M on Sunday for an opening weekend total of $158.4M.

oh my gosh, that movie was amazing. I went with some of my friends on the opening night and it was spectacular!!! I can’t wait for eclipse!! The only thing that dissapionted me was that they didn’t explain it well if u hadn’t read the books. I hope david slade does better with eclipse.
I actually like how it assumes that you have read the books. That makes me feel like they are especially making it fot twilighters

I loved the movie..seen it opening night and gonna see it again..I thought the movie followed the book pretty good…especially the opening scene
I contributed to that record… my cousin and I saw it at 5pm as planned and then went back for more at 11pm!

I saw it twice. I went to the Midnight showing with my friends and then I went to a 1:30 pm showing that same day with my Aunt. I’m going again some time this week with my sister. It rock! and EDWARD ohhhhhhh.

Just came back from seeing New moon, and I freaking loved it! I loved everything, I can’t find anything that I didn’t like about it.

My Daughter & myself went at 10AM on Friday to see New Moon. it was the best, what a BAD ASS moive, can’t wait for the rest of them. Eclipse is such a ggod book can’t wait until June, it just seems to long away from now and I can’t wait for Breaking Dawn.
