New Moon #3 all time best weekend opening with $140.7 million

Larry at Pronetworks has an update on box office numbers!
Summit Entertainment now officially estimates that The Twilight Saga: New Moon took in $140.7M from 4024 theaters this weekend.
This puts the film in third place for all-time opening weekends, behind The Dark Knight ($158.4M) and Spider-Man 3 ($151.1M) and ahead of Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest ($135.6M). The film also hauled in $118.1M from 25 foreign countries for a worldwide total $258.8M.
In addition to becoming the new champ in midnight box office and single-day totals on Friday, New Moon has now shattered several other records as well. It was the #1 biggest non-summer opening weekend of all time and the biggest ever box office opening for an independent film (and widest indie release in history). New Moon also broke the record for fastest to reach $100M, beating The Dark Knight and Spider-Man 3, and had the highest opening ever for a “vampire” genre film (passing Twilight). Of the top 34 films with numbers released today, New Moon took in more than all the 33 others combined.

oi! if that was just THIS weekend, just imagine how much it will take in during its time in theatres!!!!!!!!! If this is the numbers for New Moon, imagine what the are going to be for Eclipse and Breaking Dawn

I say that New Moon is BAD ASS. just awesome. it blows twilight away. They all where just great. Taylor diid such a good job as leading man. But of course Rob was excellent. and as much as I love him I think that there has to be a team Emmett. I hope this great showing means that there will be a breaking Dawn. Because I can’t wait for the wedding and everything. Yeah this was a awesome movie everyone needs to go see.
I saw it for the second time today. Speaking as a die-hard fan of the BOOKS I’d say the quality of book vs movie on New Moon totally blows the first Twilight movie out of the water. Of course it’s worth seeing over and over.
I saw it three times on opening day, a 4th time yesterday and I’ll be seeing it a 5th time tomorrow.

Ya I agree eclipse will be a must see in the summer! And I’m definitely gonna see that! Its gonna be a really good movie!

W.O.W. that’s just amazing! Just imagine what it will take over the coming week dude! I say the cast and crew (and all others involved with NM) did an awsome job making New Moon come to life! I can’t wait for june 30!
I saw New Moon for the first time Sunday evening. I was enraptured from the moment the movie started. I thought Taylor Lautner did an amazing job, Kristen Stewart was very good too. The little we saw of Rob – he played right to character and it would have been nice to see more of him, but that would not have been New Moon. The only thing that I didn’t like – were the ghosts of Edward that Bella would see – not very well done and I know this was a challenge. I don’t understand any of the critics with respect to the movie – I watched it with an open mind prepared to like or not like it. I really enjoyed New Moon and will likely see it another time.
i watched new moon opening nite at midnight and it was sold out!i brought my ticket a month before hand and it was nearly sold out then.i have seen it three times since the midnight showing and i plan to go alot more i am gona go monday the 30th and loads more after that!the film was amazing and followed the book to T i loved all the cast they were brillant and i love robert so much i am a massive fan of his i follow all his work.robert and kristen are amazing bringing bella and edward to the big screen.and i am not surprised new moon has broke box office records it deserves to amazing!!Team edward!! I love you Robert soooo MUCH!!!!xxxx
speaking of new movies coming out, did anyone else want to die to excitement when they saw the “remember me” trailer? that movie looks like its going to be so good! i seriously cant wait for that one either!!!!! SUMMIT- please just tell us that youre making breaking dawn! we already know its gunna happen right ladie!?
I can’t believe these numbers! Totally unexpected. Sadly I thought the movie was a little disappointing so I am hoping that eclipse is way better. Anyway, if Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson thought that they were big news before, they were wrong. The paparrazi just quadrupled in size!

and i can see why it is soo veiwed, its brilliant, can’t wait for Eclipse now 
I don’t know why people would be disappointed with NM. Lots of them complained that Twilight didn’t follow the book at all. Obviously NM followed the book almost word for word and people are still complaining. So what if they added a couple scenes. I thought they blended well and didn’t change the story line at all. Just goes to show you can’t please everyone. There will always be haters out there. Just wish they would leave Twilight alone. If ypu don’t like it, don’t watch or bother commenting. People have no lives. Sorry this got long but people just pi** me off.
That is great!!!! With all the times I will be going this week haha it will keep it on top. I just love New Moon! Its way better than Twilight and Rob was great. Of course Taylor did an awsome job but Rob is still on top for me :] Kristen as well did a great job. She is just so pretty.
first before any of the howls start I loved the books, I think the original cast are quite incredible could not have been cast better…However, I was disappointed. Not in our beloved actors but the production lacked the “passion” the “sparkle” that dripped from every second of celluloid of Twilight. Yes, NM is superior in all the special effects, but Twilight had a quality of moodiness, desperate energy that carried it. And then there is the sound track! Bella’s beautiful theme so lovingly playing in the background…Rob’s songs…Twilight was way more personal. I will see NM again and most likely several times but if it had been the first movie I am not sure there would have been a second.
@marcia : beautifully said. I think that what Twilight lacked in budget, it made up for in so many little ways … the independent feel of it, the gorgeous blue-violet tint of the film, Rob’s piano scene …
And of *course New Moon was destined to evolve into something bigger, just as Eclipse and Breaking Dawn will too. But I’ll always have a soft spot for Catherine’s details & the low-budget beauty of Twilight.

I loved New Moon. Only saw it twice, hoping to see it more times! Chris is amazing, so is the cast. They were all amazing.
