Stephenie Meyer announced today on her website that she will be releasing a new book called The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner coming out June 5th!
I have a new book coming out. It’s called The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner
. Well, it’s more of a novella than an actual book—my version of a short story.
Actually, this has been a surprise to me, too. The reason why it’s a surprise was that I never intended to publish this story as a stand-alone book. I began this story a long time ago—before Twilight was even released. Back then I was just editing Eclipse, and in the thick of my vampire world. I was thinking a lot about the newborns, imagining their side of the story, and one thing led to another. I started writing from Bree’s perspective about those final days, and what it was like to be a newborn.
There was one thing I asked for: since this story had always been an extra for me, and was meant to be released with the Guide, I wanted to be able to offer it to my fans for free. You all have bought a ton of my books, and I wanted to give you this story as a gift. My publisher was awesome and embraced this idea. We still wanted to also produce a physical book with a cool cover (see above) that you can add to your set if you like, but starting at noon on June 7th until July 5th, it will also be available online at www.breetanner.com.

NEW YORK, NY (March 30, 2010) – Little, Brown Books for Young Readers, a division of Hachette Book Group, has announced today that it will release the first new title from Stephenie Meyer in nearly two years. The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner is a novella told from the point of view of Bree, a character originally featured in Eclipse. The novella (at 192 pages) will be released at 12:01 a.m. on Saturday, June 5, 2010 in hardcover for $13.99 with a first printing of 1.5 million copies. One dollar for each book sold in the US from the first printing will be donated to the American Red Cross International Response Fund, which supports disaster relief efforts such as those in Haiti and Chile.*
“I’m as surprised as anyone about this novella,” said Stephenie Meyer. “When I began working on it in 2005, it was simply an exercise to help me examine the other side of Eclipse, which I was editing at the time. I thought it might end up as a short story that I could include on my website. Then, when work started on The Twilight Saga: The Official Guide, I thought the Guide would be a good fit for my Bree story. However, the story grew longer than I anticipated, until it was too long to fit into the Guide.”
As a special thank you to fans, Meyer is giving them exclusive access to the novel on a dedicated website, www.breetanner.com, from June 7 to July 5, 2010 where fans from around the world will be able to read the book online in English. “I’d always considered The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner as something for the fans,” said Meyer. “They have been so supportive of all things Twilight.”
Visitors to the dedicated site will also find a link to the American Red Cross website (www.redcross.org), where they can make a donation and learn more about their relief efforts worldwide. “I have been moved by the generous outpouring of support for the recent crises in Haiti and Chile,” said Meyer. “I am glad that sales of this book will support the American Red Cross with their amazing efforts abroad.”

The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner will also be available as an ebook beginning at 6:00 a.m. EST on June 5, 2010. Additionally, more information about the previously announced The Twilight Saga: The Official Guide, including publication date, will be released by the end of the year.

I love Edward!!!! But any new material for the twilight series is still great news!
The only problem with twilight in Edward's POV is that New Moon would be boring.

Sure, the other three would be fine, but the only good part of book 2 would be the last part. Unless Edward spends his time away from Bella with a werewolf that he is slowly falling in love with. That would be weird.
You don't know all he did was mope! Really if you read the book and saw what Alice said-that Edward was in South America! You do not know what he was doing there do you?
Yeah, but if you read the extras on Stephenie Meyer's website, you would know that at the point Rose called him, he was sitting in a dingy attic, moping. Just because you're obsessed and think you know everything, doesn't mean that you know exactly what he was doing where. And if he wasn't with his family, what do you expect he'd be doing? Sure he said he tracked Victoria for a little while, but I find it hard to believe he did that the whole time.

If you read what she said on her website, you would know why she doesn't want to finish yet. Besides, she has better things to do than write about vampires all day just because some carzy over obsessed teenage girl wants more. Get over it people, she says Twilight's over. I think Stephenie would be *really bummed if she knew her beloved Twilight fans were gonna black-list Bree's book … the same Twilight fans who have been begging her for more vampire novels when she's clearly stated, "I'm not doing vampires right now."
I'm beginning to understand why Stephenie *won't* release Midnight Sun yet! There's too much pressure on her to finish it. (Not to mention, we should be lynching the person who LEAKED IT, not Steph for wanting to protect it until it's perfect in her eyes). I'm Team Edward too, but wouldn't want her to rush through his book. Not for the world.
Let's support Steph on this novella, and TRUST that she will finish Midnight Sun when the time is right.

I'm still debating if I really want to read that or not. I really couldn't give a rat's ass about her story, to be honest. However, I might just read it because of it's Twilight link.
Besides, most people don't REALLY want this, most people want MIDNIGHT SUN! Ugh take a hint, Meyer. A lot of people are NOT going to forget it exists, so yeah…take the hint and release Midnight Sun and the ones that should follow :]

on August 28, 2008, stephenie meyer decided not to pick up midnight sun again for a long time, if ever again.
it's been how long since then? 1 year, 7 months, 3 days. most people never expected her to put a pen to twilight again.
and yet she comes out with this; an original story idea, with the part of the proceeds of the printed edition going to charity, and also available online, free to fans.
it's remarkable that she'd do that and yet some of her fans still want more. some people are even (internet)-yelling at her for this endeavor. please, if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say it at all, because she's doing you all a favor. everyone's all "omg i'd go nuts without more twilight!!!" and now some people are angry? please stop it. thanks.
