Breaking Dawn = Rated ‘R’ Unlikely to Happen: Video by Kaleb Nation

Our friend Kaleb Nation [TwilightGuy] has made a video explanation of why the possibilities of Breaking Dawn being rated R are VERY slim (and we agree with him):

Shame really. I know the books are aimed toward a young adult audience, but Breaking Dawn the book should've been more than what it was in many ways. A rated-R Breaking Dawn would be great, but since the book is watered down from what it could've been and such, I always knew it wouldn't be. Oh well. As long as Condon makes it damn good and serves it justice.

Sex was implyed in the book but not really detailed so PG 13 would be just fine I think. As long as Bill does a GREAT job bringing the book to life in the movie. I will be happy. Replying was the only way I could post a comment for some reason.

I think it's a GREAT idea if they do the movie PG-13 and do a directors cut Rated-R. I really want the last and final movie, aslo my FAVORITE, to go by the book. That I recall not even in the books did they concentrate on the steamy stuff, it kind of felt like me missed a page or something. Overall the movie will be great and PRAYING on 2 films!!!!

I love this guy – he puts things out so bluntly..
I really doubt BD will be rated R, and if it was then I would be screwed, BUT there are some scenes that really may not be suitable for a PG movie (I can't believe I'm saying this, but yes), so maybe they will cut some things down? I mean obviously they are gonna have to, but like some of the bloody/strong scenes, but you can still catch the storyline… IDK but yeah it won't be rated R or otherwise the thenomen would be killed!

sorry but pg or pg 13 isnt gonna happen, it will have to be 14a at least, sex scenes are a must in this movie, as well as for Emmets sexual inudenos, chapters "Isle Esme" and "Surprise" are ones that have major sex scene potential in them, and well it has to be somewhat portrayed!!, as well as scenes with renesmee being born, im 21, and i honestly think 11 and 12yr olds shouldnt read the books :S be it that a movie like breaking dawn may most likely have sex scenes in them!, 14A is the highest rating i'll give it, R would be amazing , but alas lol us older fans can only hope!

HI, Im 11 but my mom says I am mature enough to read them. Some kids really should be able to see it. The sex scenes aren't in detail- if you recall the first sex scene is at night. You will see Edward walk outside it will be dark, you will see them there together it will be dark, they wake up in a feathered room. 11 YEAR OLDS SHOULD BE ABLE TO SEE THIS MOVIE!!!!!!

okay, so you think 11 and 12 year olds shouldnt have the privilage. But how about 14, 15, 16 year olds? They deserve the privilage. so if you dont want them to see it, fine. but how about the other MILLIONS of viewers Summit would be losing? they're not stupid. most people will see this movie several times. so if its restricted to adults, they're going to lose MILLIONS of views and dollars. Also people, STEPHANIE MEYER IS A MORMAN! they're not gonna make a movie out of her book that she can't see. Duh people. And have you seen some PG-13 movies? some are almost worse than R rated. and Emmetts inuendos won't be left out if it's PG 13. almost every PG13 movie has sex scenes. pretty steamy ones too. and not tasteless like some R rated ones. Rob and Kristen don't need to have their junk filling up the screne.

I would like to point out that yes they do have sex in breaking dawn but they are not graphic, in fact they arnt really in the books at all they are implied so the movies could get away with not putting graphic sex secens in the movie and just imply them like that books did and still be true to the books.

The sex scene will be just like they did in the 50's. Couple kisses. Light turns off. Couple (in this case) wakes up in feather-mottled room. Lots and lots of this film will be implied scenes. Summit isn't stupid. They're making their $$$ off girls 16 and under. Why alienate that audience w/ an R-rating. It's not gonna happen. (That being said: A Director's Cut would be brilliant! I'd love to have the choice of seeing it both ways.)

I firmly believe that the films should stay as true to the novels as possible, except in one case, that case being the first night on Isle Esme, which (for understood reasons) was the only time I felt the book left out to much.
I would love for a PG13 theatrical cut with a RatedR directors cut version on the DVD, and I believe this is a great idea because it allows all audience members to see the film but also allows those of us, myself included, who (sue me) want to see as much of that scene as possible! to do so :)

I recon it wouldn't be too hard to do a pg13 Breaking Dawn given all the right camera angles and lighting…most of the sex scenes begin, cut away, then come back in the morning etc in the book anyway. I don't think they're gonna do a totally 100% accurate birthing scene though…cause that'd be pretty hard to do and keep it pg13…Ed would be like "Hey Jake, switch off the lights on your way in ok" LOL

We do not need it to be rated R to make it good. It is good to use your imagination as some events will be mention and not shown. I think it will be great if the make two movies, this way they give themselves a chance to show more of what happens in the book. I know it will be hard to make everybody happy, but I hope this director does eveything he can to make the majority happy. Now I can wait to see the movies. I will be great as I did with the books, be able to watch all the movies in a row as a marathon :)

Lol I really love how all the people under 14 want it PG-13, lol. Only reason I wouldn't mind it being rated-R is because the birth scene could be pretty gory, however I know they won't show that. It's not about the sex scenes, we already know they do it. I'm just saying they could do more in a rated-R movie. However I know it'd never be rated-R because of how young a lot of the fans are, just look at the comments above.

I also agree about a director's cut that a few people mentioned above. Not a bad idea for some that think it'd be better.

And I agree with Tama Perez, honestly. To this day I believe that Stephenie shouldn't have wrote for such a younger audience but instead for mainly 16-20 and obviously above, but of course if there are hot guys 11 year old's will fucking LOVE it -eye roll-

PG-13 means with parents guidance and consent. If a parent allows their child to read the books, then why not allow them to see the movie with guidance. I totally agree with Caleb. I love his comments on the matter. I'm 60+ and I see a beautiful love story between a vampire and a human (making it a fantasy) which creates a wonderful ideal of abstaining until marriage.

I don't care how it's rated as long as everything translates from the books to the film.
The Isle Esme scene has to be as good as the book and not hints of what happend. The birth of Renesmee has to be true to the bood word for word. This my favourite book of them all. It has to show the amazing release of love between Edward & Bella. I would really hate it if Condon reuins it for the fans. THIS HAS TO BE THE CLIMAX TO THE SAGA!

I think if they don't do some of the scenes WHICH THEY DID TALK ABOUT AND DETAIL THE PASSION FELT that it will just be as bad as the first 2- come on, we all read the books and those scenes are important especially isle esme and surprise! the birthing scene will have to be toned down but if vampire diaries can do an intimate scene as in the episode turning point that was pretty sexy so could BD do some kind of that scene. elena was pretty scantilu dressed–let's hope this movie will be better and let's see some passion and REAL emotion between E/B coz it hasn't been there.

Also the birth scene would not need to be so graphical. I remember when movies where rated by the color of the blood. okay people that want BD to be R-rated: the book itself does not show any description of what went down during Bella and Edward's wedding night. so making it rated R is pointless. and the birth? please, i've seen worse movies that show blood and gore and are only PG-13 (the same goes for the sex scenes). the twilight series were made for teens and even moms, not little twelve year old girls gaga over justin bieber, hannah montana, and the jobros. if they can't handle it, they shouldn't see it. but making it rated R is a joke, honestly.

Breaking Dawn does have Isle Esme but Stephanie very tastfully gave us that portion. In my opinion, compared to the sexual tension that was in the other books, mainly Eclipse, Breaking Dawn was alot tamer actually. The love scenes were illuded to but not described in the book making it very easy to portray it very well in a PG 13 movie.

I highly doubt Breaking Dawn will be Rated R. Summit is way too smart to block out their biggest money maker fans(teens) by making the movie unavailable for them to see when it first comes out. Also, the "sex scenes" everyone is talking about aren't really there; they are merely implied. Leaving the rest of the scene up to viewers. It would be great if they released a directors cut on the dvd, full of the scenes that couldn't make it in PG 13 rating. I'm hoping for that, but they wouldn't change it for the theatrical version.

Come on, the tweens have the dolls and the merchandise. They really should have their own version. Sure I love the books they do not have to be rated R but I know if they cater to the tweens a lot of important stuff will be left out! As an adult I love the romance and a whole lot of the intensity that was in the book has been left off screen. I really hope BD will do a better job. I don't need R but desperate love calls for strong emotional content that will not be appropriate for tweens! Lets stop watering down content! One reason why as an adult I love these books is because
the romance is intense without being offensive. Summit stick to the book and here's
hoping the final movie doesn't disappoint! You mom's should take your children back to Disney! Summit the tweens don't have the cash , we do. I own the books and the DVD's and when the final BD is done I will buy all the DVD's again so that I have a new and unused set. Also I have sen the movies more times than I can count. Counting down the days in NY!

So far, the movies have not watered down anything. They have stuck to the book very closely. For your hoping of Rated R content, and Summit sticking to the book, then it will fade to black, because thats how it was written. If they make it a PG-13 movie then they are going to have to make some major changes and that will ruin the whole movie for the people who have read the books like me!

Let's face it a good portion of the book involving the honeymoon, pregnancy and birth sequences are graphic and something would seem like it's missing if too much of it is cut out. I hope they just do one movie and make it a little longer if needed. Fans will sit thru it. But they probably want to make the extra box office dollars by amking it two.

To hell with it. I'm 27 and I WANT BD to be Rated R. Give us adult fans what we REALLY want. I can't tell you the disappointment I encountered the 1st time I read Isle Esme in BD and black… Nothing happens. Are you kidding me????? My coworkers are Twihards like myself and I cannot tell you how disappointed we were when we read it. Give us the passion that we really want. You feel their tension through out all the books and when it comes to the love making, we get zero! Nada! Not a darned thing. I know most will be upset to read this, but this is MY opinion and not the worlds. Good for those who's little one's share the same Twilight passion, but be serious. Even if it were PG-13, would you really let them watch it??? Hello! The honeymoon and the birthing scene are very good and require some serious passion and graphic shots. I'm still all for 2 films, not one! No 3D! And making it rated R. If you really want to please EVERYONE, then make it 2 versions: Director's Cut and Theatrical Version.

Stephanie wrote the books for a more teen based audience, which is why in books stores, all four books are in the section with other teenage books. She had a reason for the fading black effect, she knew that smaller children would be reading it! Also, she's Mormon, and that is completely out of her reaching. Going that far would be too much. If youre looking for that type of stuff, try the adult section. I'm not trying to be rude but thats how it is.

If they are to stick true to the book it couldn't possibly be rated r…there is nothing implicit in the books, even the feather scene could easily be incorporated into a PG-13 movie based on the shots, as could the headboard scene. There is absolutely no reason for them to take a book that is SPECIFICALLY NOT R rated and make it such.

To make Breaking Dawn R rated would be disrespecting both Stephanie Meyer and the books. As others have said Twilight was created as a teen series, it was not created as an adult series nor was it graphic or explicit. Anything outside of kissing, even if passionate kissing, was implied not detailed. So to write into the movie scenes that get graphic/implicit would just be ridiculous….yes we all (ok maybe not all but you get my drift) love Rob, but there is absolutely no reason everything in todays world has to be about explicit sex scenes.

The Twilight saga has been a refreshing break from all that crap, and I hope it will continue to be so.

well im 11 years old and i would not want breaking dawn to be rated r because its not fair to the kids like my age to wait till the movie comes out on dvd.I watched twilight and twilight new moon this year can u believe that?AT least for the people like my age it should be pg13.If it's pg 13 at least the 18 years olds and above can watch it,but if its rated r only the 18 year olds and above can watch it's fair because more people can watch and the people that love twilight like me can watch it.So i would say it should be pg 13 and im on edwards side.xoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxo I LUV VAMPIRES LOL!!!!!!!!!
