Portland, Oregon news reporter, Bob Heye, talks to Twilight casting director Lana Veenker about the “Breaking Dawn” casting scam.

Now, Veenker is speaking out because she says some people are giving Web-site operators hundreds of dollars for “something a casting director will probably never see.”

“I realized what an easy target these kids are because they’re so enthusiastic about the movie,” Veenker told KATU. “…To say that they’re casting a specific project and that clicking here will shoot an email directly to the casting director [is] blatantly false.”

The casting director for the films is warning teens to be wary of any Web-based claims of special access for casting of any sequels: “I just didn’t want to see [this] happen – it makes me mad,” Veenker said.

The ActorCast Blog has a Q&A with Rene Haynes, the casting director for Eclipse.

What do you look for in an actor who has no experience, and how do you identify “potential”?

I always look for something in the EYES – there’s an indefinable “it factor” that makes someone “watchable”. This is usually a perfect combination of intelligence, charisma and skill. Whether it’s looking at photos or watching taped auditions – I want to see something going on in the eyes. If there’s a spark – there’s “potential”.

Did a non-actor/unknown have a real chance at being cast in one of these roles, or was this just a publicity vehicle?

Yes – of course an unknown had a real chance. Seriously – we are all really busy – and would never just make extra work for ourselves… The Twilight Saga projects do not lack for publicity – so the Open Casting was not simply a publicity stunt. We genuinely were interested in finding new faces – just as we had discovered through our various open calls for the “Wolf Pack” in New Moon.

Celebuzz has an exclusive interview with New Moon casting director Rene Haynes about all the fans that wanted to be casting in New Moon.

When Haynes was hired to cast the Native American roles in New Moon, she immediately became the center of attention of fans eager to speak their minds.

“It was crazy, especially in the early days,” Haynes tells Celebuzz.

“In the first four weeks after the announcement that my office was casting these roles we stopped counting emails after 20,000,” she tells Celebuzz. “I am not exaggerating.”

Many did not stop there. When Haynes’ office number was posted, the fans called there as well. This didn’t help when Haynes would forward her phone calls to her cell phone and then received the ‘Twilight’ wake-up call usually from a foreign country.

SUMMIT ENTERTAINMENT RUNS WITH THE WOLF PACK IN THE TWILIGHT SAGA: NEW MOON

Chaske Spencer, Bronson Pelletier, Alex Meraz, Kiowa Gordon
and Tyson Houseman to Star as Members of Wolf Pack

Los Angeles, CA March 23, 2009 – Summit Entertainment announced today that Native American/First Nation actors Chaske Spencer, Bronson Pelletier, Alex Meraz, Kiowa Gordon and Tyson Houseman have signed on to star as the members of the wolf pack in THE TWILIGHT SAGA: NEW MOON. In the film, the wolf pack defends humans against vampires although they have a tribal history intricately entwined with Edward Cullen and his family. The wolf pack members will join Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and fellow wolf pack member Taylor Lautner in the film directed by Chris Weitz which will be released domestically November 20, 2009.

In THE TWILIGHT SAGA: NEW MOON, Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart) is devastated by the abrupt departure of her vampire love, Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson) but her spirit is rekindled by her growing friendship with the irresistible Jacob Black (Taylor Lautner). Suddenly she finds herself drawn into the world of the werewolves, ancestral enemies of the vampires, and finds her loyalties tested.

Each member of the wolf pack is of Native decent. Spencer is Lakota (Sioux), Pelletier is Cree-Metis, Meraz is Purepecha (Tarasco), Gordon is Hualapai, and Houseman, who was discovered at an open casting call, is Cree. Casting of the wolf pack was overseen by award-winning casting director Rene Haynes who is well-known for her work on Native projects ranging from DANCES WITH WOLVES to BURY MY HEART AT WOUNDED KNEE.

Now that Dakota Fanning’s casting as vampire Jane in the Twilight sequel New Moon is official, we can resume our discussion about who should be cast as her bloodsucker brother Alec in a manner so serious that the PopWatcher who posts as “Sgt. Hatred” will be forced to once again comment, “This article, fans of this series and any others involved in it are the cancer that is killing worthwhile entertainment.” Keep in mind that actors can play younger than their age, dye their hair, and survive a Disney career.

I don’t mean that I have any aversion to you as a sister. It’s just that… this is not the life I would have chosen for myself. I wish there had been someone there to vote no for me. — Rosalie Hale, New Moon | Chapter 24
