Fansites Interview with Alex Meraz and Edi Gathegi

Twilighters.org got the chance to participate in a conference call interview with the cast from New Moon! This is the second part of the interview series, with Alex Meraz (Paul) and Edi Gathegi (Laurent). Other fansites on the call were the Twilight Lexicon, His Golden Eyes, Twilight Examiner, Twilight Series Theories, Twilight Facebook, Twilight Moms, Twilighters Anonymous, Twilight Superfan, Twilight Source/Imprint, and Bella and Edward.

Q: I just wanted to ask both of you guys, what was your favorite stunt to do?

Alex: For me, my favorite stunt to do was the cliff-diving scene. It’s pretty fun when you get the chance to jump off this fifty foot scaffolding just to practice the form, and it’s really exciting. I mean, it’s a good thing when an actor can actually perform your own stunts; it’s pretty rare.

Edi: I actually had a ton of fun on the second unit. The second unit director was extremely collaborative, and we actually created a shot together based on an idea that I had. And I can’t give it away, but the stunt that I do was something that I thought of and he said yes to, and it felt very wonderful to be able to have that sort of collaboration on a project of that scale.

Q: Alex, was it hard for you to come onto the New Moon set as one of the newcomers?

Edi: It was ‘cause I beat him up everyday [laughs].

Alex: There was no phase. Well, surrounded by the rest of the wolfpack, we’re all new to it, so we kind of relied on each other, you know, for support and whatnot, and we spent the most time together. So, when I saw any of the other actors, it was mostly in passing, but we did work together. It was all good, you know, we had a good time. No … I felt right at home.

Fansites Interview with the Humans of New Moon

Twilighters.org got the chance to participate in a conference call interview with the cast from New Moon! This is the first part of the interview series, with the humans from New Moon, Christian Serratos (Angela), Justin Chon (Erik), Anna Kendrick (Jessica) and Michael Welch (Mike).

Q: In New Moon you have a kind of love triangle going on. I’m curious to see how that ended up playing out for you.

Michael Welch: There are a couple of different love triangles there. There’s obviously the one between Bella and Jacob and Edward that Mike is trying to squeeze into. More of a love rectangle. And I guess there’s the one between Mike and Jessica and Bella. You know, Jessica likes Mike. Mike likes Bella. Everybody likes Bella. And it sort of doesn’t turn out great for Mike or Jessica. A lot of this is very indicative of high school heart ache in general, but it’s sort of heightened with these supernatural characters.

Q: Both of you have a background in theatre. I wanted to know how that has helped you with your roles for Twilight and New Moon?

Anna Kendrick: Well on a logistical note, there was a scene when Jessica and Bella go to the movies, when we were shooting that outside there were like hundreds of girls standing and watching as we shot it. It was just a nice tool to have experience in front of a live audience. It seems like a silly comparison, but honestly it helped to kind of block out the fact that all these fans were watching us and to try to just focus on the scene and ignore the fact that they’re all kind of videotaping us from the side lines.

Q: What was your favorite scene to shoot?

Mickael Welch: My favorite scene by far was the kind of three way date that happened between Mike and Bella and Jacob. That horribly awkward moment when Mike asks Bella out to the movies and she tries to turn it into a group thing and then it ends up being the worst case scenario which is that that three way thing. You know, I’m sure it was certainly not a lot of fun for Mike to go through. I mean, I can relate, as I’m sure a lot of us can, but it was a lot of fun to do.

Anna Kendrick: And I would have to say that there is a scene where Jessica and Bella go to the movies. That was fun because Jessica really likes to talk about herself and Bella is really depressed. She’s not saying much. We were just kind of trying to do it all in one take, and Chris told me to just keep talking until we came to a natural stop. So I stopped and just kind of monologued as flighty, silly Jessica which was a blast.

Q: Does having different directors and different visions for different movies cause any confusion for how you should play your character?

Michael Welch: I think that the directors that we’ve had are very different in terms of style and process, but there seems to be a singular vision in terms of our characters. Everyone seems to be pretty unanimous about it, and that basically is that we are there to add levity to the franchise and to just represent normalcy in Bella’s life. Represent just kind of a real high school experience to give the story some grounding so that people are able to believe the more supernatural fantasy elements.

I never really understood why everyone was reading Twilight I thought it was just some stupid romance, and I regret that ever so much now. One day I went shopping and my older sister bought the book so im like ” ok I’ll also read it and check it out”. When I finally started reading it im like”this isnt interesting”and I stoped at PAGE 8!! After a 1 or 2 weeks I saw the movie and im like :O OH MY GOD. I fell madly in love with it, I was dieing to read New Moon. When I finally got New Moon, 24/7 reading, all the time i had the book with me, at breakfast, at lunch, at dinner, even late at night when everyone was sleeping and early in the morning and if I leave the house the book comes along. It only took me 1 week to finish New Moon, then i got eclipse and the same thing for New Moon applied: comes with me everywhere, and it only took 1 week and a few days to finish it, and the day I finished Eclipse, I got Breaking Dawn. When my mom bought the book and came home, I was jumping for joy, knowing that it gets extra interesting, right when I got the book I ran to my room and started reading it, and couldnt stop. I got to know about Twilight from my co-worker. She’s a big reader and started telling me about this book and got me interested in it. I am not a reader, but the way she describe the story, had me think and got me interested. So i decided to start reading the book and i instantly fell in love with it. From there i couldn’t stop reading and i wanted to know what would happen next and by the time i realized i have finished reading the whole saga. When i heard that there was a movie coming out, i got so excited that i started looking for trailers and i fell more in love with it!! Now i can’t wait for NEW MOON!! It is so exciting!!!Thank goodness for Stephanie Meyer!!

Those are the first books that i have ever read and because of those books, i started reading and i even got my mother into the whole saga and now she into that book more than me. I can’t even count the amount of times that she has read the books. Those are the coolest book ever!! I just hope Stephanie will some day decide to finally publish MIDNIGHT SUN :(

Ever since i found out about Twilight i have never missed an update;got pictures, the movie and even the board game. I have never liked a movie so much as Twilight and it’s my all time favorite. Twilight is my number one fav movie of all time!!

I didn’t catch on right away, I tried reading Twilight earleiar and I got bored so I didn’t finish it. But then I started seeing trailers for the movie and I was like “that looks really good I need to read the book.” I wanted to read the book before I saw the movie but it was always checked out at the library. I was staying with my aunt for Thanksgiving when my cousin and his girlfriend asked me which movie I’d rather see,Twilight or Bolt, immediatley I said Twilight-I was the deciding factor-anyways after the movie I was on the computer searching everything twilight, annoyed my cousin to no end. after that I finally got my hands on the book and I read them faster than Ive ever read before I was addicted. Ican’t go a day without thinking about twilight and somehow just about everything I hear I can realate back to Twilight, I’ve also have been annoying my mom since Novemrber about it. Ive read the books six times and for some reason the sixth was way more emotionall than the others-with new moon I was always sad but didn’t cry, 6th read I cried, and I have never been able to absoulutly love jacob but I don’t hate him either. the 6th read-I cried when he left at the end of eclipse. If anything my love for twilight is becoming stronger and stronger.

I was sitting behind my best friend one day and I heard her talking about Twilight. I had no idea what it was at the time, so I borrowed the book only knowing that it was about vampires. I read through the entire thing in one night; no idea what time it was, but I just couldn’t stop reading. I got New Moon next and read through that one in about a day, actually cried through it would be more accurate. Then I went on to read Eclipse, and soon I was the crazy obsessed fan that no one wanted to talk to because all I would talk about was Twilight. By now I have read each and every one of them countless times and driven everyone around me insane. Whenever I’m driving, I’ll see street signs that somehow I relate to Twilight.? Twilight is my favorite movie, and New Moon will be my new favorite movie once it comes out. I already know.
